About Sous Le Nez

We are one of Leeds’s longest established restaurants, priding ourselves on serving delicious French dishes made from locally sourced ingredients since 1991. We specialise in quality wines and boast an extensive wine list to suit every taste.

Sous Le Nez Description

It's all about a different atmosphere. It's about good food. It's about good service and attention to detail. So no wonder the long-established Sous Le Nez is one of the most acclaimed restaurant and winebars in Leeds.

In fact, our award winning basement bar and bistro - in a handy, city centre location - has been providing mouthwatering food to Leeds diners for over 15 years. Our wine list is as unusual as it is extensive, and our lunchtime and evening menus are creative and very popular. And our portions are huge too!

At Sous le Nez we are committed to using only the best suppliers for the best products, with this in mind we have experienced a dramatic increase in the price of beef, steak in particular has seen the biggest jump in years. There are many factors for this and we have absorbed the price increase for some time now however we can no longer withstand such a significant increase.
Factors affecting the price increase include:
... High Replacement Livestock Costs Many farmers are unable to afford to replace livestock to increase their herds or even afford to breed from their current herds. Cattle numbers are very low and therefore prices are high.
Feed Shortage Due to the “ Beast from the East” livestock were fed for longer. The cold was detrimental to this season's crops before the scorching Spring/Summer temperature. Livestock feed costs are at an all-time high.
Poor Crop Yield Due to soaring high temperatures, yield is considerably lower ahead of this Autumn/Winter and feed prices are at a high ahead of this Winter.
Dry Aging We only use dry aged beef where the dry aging process takes a minimum of 4 weeks. During this time the overall weight of the primal cut (the whole joint) is reduced considerably. With this in turn the cost of the finished dry aged steak has increased.
As a company, Sous le Nez will continue to bring you the best produce, at the best price possible and as soon as there is a drop in beef price, this will be reflected in the menu prices.
Thank You for understanding.

Went last night for a double birthday meal .The food was fantastic, service was quick and alway with a smile and the atmosphere was lively and friendly only negative thing I could say, service was a little too quick but still gave five stars would recommend this place to friends and family

User

We came for the early bird menu - 3 courses plus 1/2 a bottle of house wine each for around £29pp. Excellent value! All our food was delicious - good quality ingredients, prepared and cooked well and served attractively. A lovely venue buzzing with people last night (Saturday). Staff are all friendly, helpful and efficient.

Visited 11/11/17 with a group of friends (all foodies) the early bird set menu was good value with the 1/2 bottle of wine. Service was swift & attentive as required when the crowd & conversation are the focal point. 17 years since a few of us had visited - seemed less formal more relaxed - lovely evening

User

Used to go a lot not been for a while...4 of us tried the early bird menu 3 courses with wine.. thoroughly enjoyed by all ...the lambs liver was a favourite & the creme brulee xx will be back soon xx

User

Two of us dined, I had the menu du soir & my husband had the a la carte. All the staff were helpful, friendly & efficient. The French onion soup & black pudding starters were excellent and the lambs liver I had was delicious. My husband said the rib eye steak and he said it was one of the best he has had for a long time. We were not hurried at all and will return in the not too distant future. Thank you.

The food was brilliant and very good service. Good value for money. Loved it

User

Really nice atmosphere, and great service. Food was good, perhaps seafood could have been a bit better, but all in all a great meal.

User

Our first visit but it definitely won’t be the last. Fantastic, varied a la Carte menu and good selection of wines. Really tasty, well cooked food. Nice, relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff who looked after us very well. We’ll be returning soon.

User

Lovely surprise Valentine's meal. Champagne apertife. Loved the Queen scallops starter. The local pheasant was excellent. Including the pheasant leg meat made into a mini side cottage pie. Enjoyed with a good Languedoc white crisp wine. Attentive and friendly staff.

I used to love Souz me Nez when I worked in Leeds, in fact I used to hold networking lunches as the food was consistently wonderful, but regardless of the new trendy places springing up, the food here never failed to deliver.

Ive not visited for a couple of years as I no longer work in Leeds, but had to revisit the first chance I had and gosh, absolutely nothing has changed.... the food was absolutely delicious as ever and the service was impeccable too.

Well done guys, we left very happy smiling customers and I can't wait to come back again.

User

I ate here on my own this week and was instantly made to feel very welcome. The 3 course early bird special with half bottle of wine was perfect. I had a warm chilli chicken salad, followed by pigeon, which was so flavoursome. Finished off with toffee cheesecake with honeycomb and blood orange gel. The house red was very quaffable too! I will return again on my next visit to Leeds.

User

First visit here won't be our last. Food was beautiful, lovely presentation, lots of choice. Belly pork was amazing, sticky toffee pudding to die for. Service was very good and all staff were friendly yet professional. It is a hidden gem wasn't easy to find as we not from Leeds but glad we did .

User

Absolutely fantastic food and service! French onion soup was amazing...highly recommend this restaurant

User

Absolutely amazing meal and lovely place at reasonable prices

User

Absolutely amazing food (gluten free too) and service. Came as an extremely large (pre booked) group and the service was outstanding!

User

Nice atmosphere in a basement, although steps outside were a bit dodgy in the rain! Food was lovely - I really enjoyed my cod in chowder. And it has to be the best wine list I've seen in a while, with plenty offered by the glass to choose from! If it weren't so far away, I'd be happy to return with friends :-)

User

A small book unto itself, Sous Le Nez has hands down the most extensive and impressive wine list for a restaurant in Leeds. While the set menu leaves a bit to be desired, ordering a la carte can be a real treat. During one visit the staff were even kind enough to allow me to order a starter and main off separate menus (bar and restaurant), with both dishes being superb.

User

Toilets had been out of action all day. Had to go out of the building and around the corner to a neighbouring hotel to use their facilities. No warning on arrival, no offer to get our coats to wear to go outside, no offer of even a free coffee by way of apology. Thought it was handled very badly.

User

The set menu was hugely disappointing . I had the coley fish cake to start. I have had better fish cakes from Lidl. The pigeon was tough and the cheese board was one of the worst ever. Maybe the manager would like to call into Brassiere Blanc to see and experience what should be served in a French restaurant. To say I was disappointed is the biggest understatement ever. £122 the poorer!
