South Kensington Station
Reviews
An historic station. Very busy. Three main
lines. Lots of stairs. Perfectly placed for 3
major museums, the Albert Hall, Hyde Park
and the Albert Memorial. Lots of food and
drink.
Great location. Lots of shops and restaurants are around.
Is either deadly quiet or absolutely packed, there seems to be no in between. There are some shops connected to the station which are nice. There are no escalators, so be prepared to carry prams down stairs.
Nice tube station with spacious forecourt and many shops including a Kodak? This station was rebuilt in 1906 and features the popular oxblood terracotta tiles which remain in good condition.
Open air platforms? Love it
Always too overcrowded and busy, long queues and waiting to top up oyster cards (one might queue there 30 minutes to buy tube ticket) and etc. Huge crowds on stairs, with everyone pushing there in a rush hour, very popular with tourists, and very dirty station indeed.
If you are a tourist and you need to go to museums - National History Museum, Science Museum, V&A Museum, cafes and others - you need to turn right to a tunnel which will take you directly to museums.
It is only 5 minutes walk from station. There is also a street map outside of the station. A lot of cafes and restaurants
Always very busy because of the 3 underground lines that stop here, multiple entrances and close proximity to 3 major national museums. Can feel very crowded in the entrance due to large numbers of visitors to the museums and who are often looking for directions. There's always plenty of friendly staff to help. If using the Circle/District Line, look out for the beautifully tended garden on the eastbound platform.
Good clean station. Plenty of access to attractions
Super busy, due to it's easy access to many museums along exhibition Road. The subway takes you all the way up to the science museum without getting wet. Station staff are friendly and helpful. There is an in station pret for quick snacks en route.
Great little London underground station, the westbound tube map on the platform will be confusing for tourists thanks to the east/west, and north/south nature of the district line but this isn't the fault of the station.
Very busy at peak times. Has a long subway to access all the nearby museums easily which is helpful.
The district line platform is quite quaint, but the whole station is in need of a refurbishment. It's dirty, old and crowded
And charming old tube station with a great connection to the museums. Therefore you can expect it to be crowded at certain times. The tunnel that connects to the Exhibition Road allows you to arrive to the museums without being exposed to the sun (in the summer) or the rain and the cold weather (in the winter).
