About South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association - Syeda

SYEDA is an eating disorders support centre. We offer support groups and free advice at our drop in sessions to all affected by an eating disorder.

South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association - Syeda Description

SYEDA is a local charity specialising in offering support, counselling, advice and therapies to sufferers of an eating disorder and carers. Every other tuesday we hold a drop in session 5-6: 30 available to all at 26-28 Bedford street, Neepsend, Sheffield, S6 3BT. If you are worried about a friend or family member and suspect they may be suffering from an eating disorder we offer free impartial advice. If you want information about SYEDA and what we do you can check out our website www. syeda.org. uk or come along to the drop in session. The first tuesday of every month we run support groups for sufferers and carers lead by trained facilitators. We also offer counselling and a range of therapies. If you just want to learn more about eating disorders pop along to the drop in session and borrow a book from our library, speak to one of the counsellors or pick up a leaflet. If you would like to volunteer with us at the drop in sessions or at our fundraising events please email us at recvol@syeda.org. uk.

If you are someone who has been involved in accessing support for an eating disorder either as a sufferer or carer and would like to be involved in helping to shape the redesign of a pathway in Sheffield across all ages please get in touch with us at Syeda on info@syeda.org.uk.
See the information below from Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group regarding this for more details…
As you may be aware the redesign of Eating Disorders services has been identified as a priority pr...oject for 2018/19 by the Sheffield Mental Health and Learning Disability Delivery Board. Some work has of already commenced on this area following the work completed last year looking at the 0-18 service offer, however we feel there are further opportunities to explore in terms of developing an all-age, stepped care model of provision which integrates and streamlines the care pathway for service users.
The vision is to have a seamless continuum of care regardless of an individual’s age (and in some respects their clinical presentation) ideally through a single point of access. The key features for a future offer may include:
• An all age service; • Self-referral; • Single point of access; • A full spectrum of support with a focus on early intervention and prevention; • Better use of community assets in meeting need in the most appropriate setting; • Single referral / exclusion criteria; and • A commitment to meet the National waiting time standards across all ages.
Achieving real transformation which puts the service user at the heart of the delivery model will require commissioners, providers, service users and wider stakeholders across current children and adult services to work together in a far more collaborative way. In order to begin this process we would like to hold a number of workshops – essentially challenging partners and stakeholders to jointly develop a collaborative vision for the redesign of the eating disorder services pathway in Sheffield.
Workshop 2 (25th June) – Building on the work already carried out, this workshop will provide an opportunity to a wide range of stakeholders to walk through the customer journey of the proposed Eating Disorder pathway, identifying strengths, benefits and identifying issues that still need to be resolved. This will result in the creation of a further developed pathway based on the customer journey.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss further please contact Raheel Baig raheel.baig@nhs.net

RECOVERY At SYEDA we believe that recovery is possible. Last year our therapy and counselling services engaged with 146 people who were ready to embark on their recovery journey. If you work with someone who is going through recovery, consider our training options to strengthen your abilities to support them to do so.

SEEK HELP If you think you are struggling with an eating disorder, seek support straight away. Recovery is possible, but the sooner you seek the treatment you may need, the more likely you will be to make a full recovery. Support that is currently open to you at SYEDA is our monthly peer support group for anyone suffering with an eating disorder. You do not need a diagnosis or a referral, you can just turn up. Please take a look at our website for details of the next group www.syeda.org.uk

CAMPAIGN More and more people are coming forward to seek help for an eating disorder, but our services need to be funded adequately to provide support for all those who need it. There are lots of ways to raise awareness and help those affected get the support they deserve, from signing petitions to meeting with your MP or local healthcare services. Continue to follow us on social media to keep up with news and research on eating disorders.
