Couldn't have asked for more compassion and helpfulness when my father-in-law passed from kidney cancer this August.

I have always had wonderful treatment at this hospital. In fact in 2003 they performed an emergency op on me, which saved my life, I had a bowel dissection and an abcess on my appendix. We have since moved to Brightlingsea but wish we still lived near Southend Hospital. My son (who sadly died of cancer in November 2015) was treated by the wonderful Tim Crook and Khaled, They went far beyond trying to save him but sadly he died of metastatic melanoma stage IV. My remaining son has been treated there. Mr Jakeways performed an operation on him in 2015 for celiac artery compression syndrome. Although two years on he is still suffering the operation has made a vast difference to his life. He also has been under Southend for many years. I always say, if you are really ill, Southend is the best hospital to be treated. After I moved in 2016 only three weeks after, I was rushed into Colchester hospital to have my stomach drained through adhesions. Although I was quite satisfied with them and remember they were going through a bad time. I was dreading it as Southend had it under control so quickly, but I survived. We both wish we could still attend Southend but alas it is too far and of course out of our area. I would like to thank you by this post to everyone and I mean everyone for treating us at Southend.

After being shunted backwards and forwards, from doctor to dentist over the last 25 years, I finally thought I'd got somewhere when my new dentist referred me to the maxillofacial unit in Southend Hospital. The staff at the unit seemed very nice but could not identify the reason for my pain. On one occasion I was even told it was imaginary - a memory of an abscess I had suffered some years previously. "Why then," I asked, "does this imaginary pain bleed?" Finally, it was decided that I suffered with severe rhinocitis but the hospital staff said they would continue to monitor me each six months. It was a surprise therefore when I was sent a letter telling me I was discharged. I still suffer daily pain. I have had to give up my part-time work, which supplements my pension, as a public speaker because I cannot bear the pain of raising my voice. I phoned this morning (Friday) to ask them to see me again only to find that the phone is only manned Monday to Friday morning. Hopeless!

What a fantastic place!. I was in as a emergency, had a big operation, and I am home again. Everyone on all the wards I was on were very kind and looked after me very well. My Surgeon was ESTHER FINE, what a great Surgeon and team!. The food was really good and lots of it. I went in scared, but afterwards I lost the fear.
