It is a classroom app for primary school children to use on a tablet when they get stuck during their independent class work. It transforms the moment of getting stuck – that ‘spaghetti brain' feeling – from a barrier into an opportunity. Spaghetti Brain acts like a personal coach: using key prompt questions, it helps the child to identify the problem and then to try different strategies to move forward. Spaghetti Brain uses the data from this process to learn about the child and adapt to their unique learning needs. It shows them what they struggle with most and what strategies work best for them, as well as providing opportunities for reflection. By changing the perception of getting stuck into a natural, even positive, part of the learning process for everyone, it helps children to respond to challenge by experimenting with different strategies, before giving up or immediately asking for help. The result is increased confidence, resilience and self-awareness. Spaghetti Brain also allows the teacher to log in and see an overview of how a child has used the app, providing valuable insight into their specific learning needs and how best to support them. Teachers can more effectively personalise their teaching and feedback for individual children, and see any patterns across different groups of students.
