I previously supported a safeguarding investigation with a charity that provided elderly day care centre services to the Asian community. The Problem: They were forced to suspend an employee following a report in the media about an employee. Their funding from the local council was suspended, pending an investigation into the matter and for the charity to then meet the minimum standards required; all within an extremely tight timeframe. I provided HR support to a medium sized district council in the West Country. The Problem: With the planned changes to the client’s business, customer service, HR and licencing departments were transferring to a new service provider and the employees providing the service would also transfer under TUPE regulations. However, there was a TUPE challenge, whereby as HR was transferring it was not felt appropriate for them to be responsible for supporting the transfer. I previously supported the implementation of a workplace pension scheme at a large independent school, providing education and boarding for 4-18 year olds (boys/girls). The Problem: The school already provided a Teacher’s Pension Scheme to the teaching staff but had no pension provision for support staff. The school had a matter of a few months before their staging date for pension auto enrolment and the small HR team lacked the capacity to implement the scheme. Previously I supported a plumbing and heating merchant, following a large employee theft of money and stock, which led to the company needing to make redundancies, closing one of its depots. Approach: Met with the Directors of the company and gained insight into the problem. Discussed the options available, consideration given to complying to employment legislation and the individuals it would affect, risks and costs. I worked with a large City Council, employing 8000+ staff, in health and social care, neighbourhood’s, corporate services and children and young people’s services. An existing female employee was appointed into a new role as social worker. She initially developed a good working relationship with her new manager and team. After a few months of working, her line manager, who was male began becoming over-friendly, leering at her across the offices, and regularly would touch her inappropriately. I previously worked with a medium sized catering and kitchen equipment company. A member of call centre team was breaching Data Protection legislation. Several customers had complained about the level of unprofessionalism demonstrated by the employee. He had already received informal warnings and his performance remain unchanged. The business was at risk of the breach in Data Protection and the situation could not be sustained. [ 102 more words ] https://specialisedhr.wordpress.com/…/d ismissing-employees…/

Are the temperatures during summer months causing your employees to feel uncomfortable? How can you help them? Employer's are only required to make sure the workplace temperature is a 'reasonable' temperature, there is no statutory upper limit for the temperature. The Health and Safety Executive mainly have concerns where temperatures in the workplace make the job too difficult and unsafe to work in, ie manufacturing plants where excessive temperatures are already high; and appropriate controls are to be put in place… [ 112 more words ] https://specialisedhr.wordpress.com/…/g uidance-for-employe…/

Dealing With Difficult Employees Couldn't Be Easier
Nearly every manager I’ve ever consulted or coached has told me about having at least one employee who’s not cutting the mustard. It has become a part of every manager’s daily life, they are having to deal with a least one employee that is difficult to manage, isn’t performing well in the role, does not get on well with colleagues, or never seems to get it in terms of what they are expected to do.
Many managers find that thi...

Hi everyone - I am on the hunt for a venue in central Birmingham to host a monthly meetup for our wonderful vegan and cruelty free business owners.
The monthly meetings will be like a network meeting, but hopefully more fun, with lots of interaction, learning, supporting and connecting with entrepreneurs and existing business owners. There will be spots for guest speakers for you to gain some knowledge from - open to all.
The meetings will take place early evening and the venue would ideally accommodate 20-30 people. The meeting are free to members of the group, so sign up if you haven't already. So, ideally I am looking for a venue that doesn't charge. Any recommendations welcome. Thanks

Our first Zero Waste Shop in Worcester (The Gallery, The Shambles) is opening tomorrow - Sat 6th October.
Buying in a Zero Waste shop is easy. Bring either bags or containers and weigh them first then weigh them when you have the product in and one weight will be deducted from the other. Take them home and transfer to a storage container!
Zero Waste shopping is cheaper than usual shopping as you don’t have to pay for the plastic and of course sits better on your conscience. ...
Check out ‘Pack It In’ - Worcester’s first Zero Waste shop.

What is the biggest challenge you encounter as a manager everyday? Is it time management or the fact that employees take up a lot of your time?

DEALING WITH DIFFICULT EMPLOYEES COULDN'T BE EASIER:
Nearly every manager I’ve ever consulted to or coached has told me about having at least one employee who’s not so great. I’ve come to think of it as an almost inevitable part of the manager’s professional landscape: there's generally that one (or more) employee who doesn’t perform well, or is difficult to deal with, or has a hard time getting along with others, or means well but just doesn’t ever quite do what’s expected,...

Are you a vegan in the workplace, or a vegan business? Know your rights as an employee and an employer. Many people don't realise that veganism is no longer just a diet, it's a lifestyle choice too and a belief. A belief is protected in the same way that a religion is...... https://l2b.thelawyer.com/vegan-rights-uk /

WestPoint Underfloor Heating highly recommend Specialised HR Solutions. This is where Specialised HR Solutions have fitted to our needs perfectly providing specialist knowledge and flexible support at an affordable rate. We have received a range of support from Tania including the production of new contracts of employment, employee handbooks, support with disciplinary procedures, settlement agreements and more recently support with GDPR obligations.
