Spen Angling Longbottoms & Mann Dams

Sam braved torrential rain last night to have a few hours after work and managed this little stocky at 8lb. Loads of carp hitting the bank at the minute for those that put the effort in 🎣

Following tonight’s committee meeting it has been decided to recruit two new bailiffs to assist Mick and Colin. This is to ensure we are maximising our presence on the bank and making sure our members have good points of contact. Phil Bailey will be taking up one of these roles based at Longbottoms and the committee welcome expressions of interest from members who feel they could assist Colin effectively at Mann Dam 👍 Those interested should private message the page for consideration.

Bit of a grey day today and unbelievably an empty pond at Longbottoms for what I think is the first day in around 2-3weeks! Getting a much needed grass cut today too!

Another match and another night of poor weather! However every one caught tonight with just under 100lb of fish hitting the bank in 3 hours between 10 anglers!

Spawning Update - it’s pretty much all over for now, a few Bream still cleaning off but the carp look relaxed and finished. Business as usual 👍

Results are in! Testing conditions today with a few pegs closed due to 90% of the Bream, Roach and Carp spawning this morning. 1st Derek Hartshorne 13lb 2oz Peg 9, 2nd Alistair Fleming 12lb 6oz Peg 5, 3rd Sam Hirst 11lb 9oz Peg 14.
Now this makes things interesting League wise with Chris Sheard, Dave Newman and Alan Locke all tied for first place on 25 points closely followed by Phillip Knott on 21! Who knows how it will look after June’s match!?

It’s League day! Will there be a change in the leaderboard by 4 o’clock this afternoon?

Lots of spawning activity today in pegs 8 and 19 from the Bream and Roach the Carp are close but haven’t started as yet and with a down turn in temps next week probably won’t.
Tomorrow’s League match is unaffected and goes ahead as planned! See you all in the morning

The bream are now spawning infront of Peg 8/9 as usual please avoid fishing in the area and let them get on with it and hopefully get it over with quickly. Our resident shoal of Goldfish are also having a bit of a go infront of 14 🤣

I have started to see a little bit of Spawning activity from the Roach but no other species as yet. I will update as and when we have any more activity.

Jack bending into another Bream just now, unbelievably there has probably been over 100lb of bream out today so far from talking to anglers and taking catch reports!!!

Constantly get asked what baits work and the answer is always the same “Good Quality Boilie will catch you fish” don’t go bargain basement shopping spend some money on your bait and get a decent bait they want to come back and eat more of! 10 minutes in the water and Blake only had one rod out when this went off and I happen to know he only had a bait delivery an hour before he started fishing!

Spring has definitely arrived at Longbottoms, loads of Tench and Crucians hitting the bank, ducklings everywhere and first strim of the year done. Looks good for a few fish this weekend 🎣🎣
