We joined the queue outside the restaurant as it was so busy and I wondered how long we were going to have to wait for a table but it was only about five minutes ... Because the staff had already given us a meal as soon as we sat down we were able to order and the lovely food turned up very shortly afterwards and it was lovely

Visited late on a Thursday. Hadn't booked beforehand, indeed they don't do bookings for small parties. We waited for the queue to dissipate across the road-this place is popular with tourists and locals alike- having a couple of ales outside SQ. I'd highly recommend that place too.

Very hospitable service in both places. I was glad of the non battered fish options they had, my choice was a seafood mix with a couple of varieties of fish and prawns and cockles. Thermidor sauce, the chips (just the right amount for me ie not an overload) and the fish were all of the excellent standard I have come to expect after over 30 years of visits.

There are now several places to eat of an evening in Braunton, I am pleased to report that Squires is still a top choice.

This has got to be amongst the best Fish & Chip Restaurants in the UK. We have been visiting it for almost 40 years now and, although it is over 100 miles from home, it has not been unknown for us to make a day trip to Barnstaple for shopping and a meal here before returning home; and, on the way home from holidays in Cornwall to divert up to Braunton especially for a visit. It is the restaurant by which we measure all others we use - and, although some have come close, we have yet to find one to exceed. Even in 2018 the prices are amongst the best, and barely seem to have risen for many years. WE LOVE IT!!!

Really nice food and helpful staff at very reasonable prices and food is of a very high quality. Good choice of food apart from fish and chips such as burgers and curries. Would recommend highly to visit again

My father in law bought a second home there some 15 years ago .. sold about 4 years ago .. the entire family had holidays there over the years the highlight being a visit to what we have all said is the best chip shop in the UK! Squires has a standard and quality of food unsurpassed! This weekend we went back to Braunton for my 50th birthday, reliving some history! The pinnacle of the weekend was my Steak n Ale pie !! I even bought 5 back home for future pleasure ! ... well done Squires ! Thank you for many years of excellent food and I hope many more to come!

Lovely restaurant, beautifully clean, that steak and ale pie was lush! My 9 year old daughter polished off the cheese and bacon burger. Wifey enjoyed her salad and my mother in law had the poached haddock. Cannot fault the service or the location. All in all the best fish nd chip shop for miles. Thank you for an #awesomeexperience

I recommend anyone and everyone to visit Squires! Please do not let the really fancy look and queues put you off, the value for money is amazing, it looks expensive and from the outside I thought it was too posh for us lol but it is pure quality, and anywhere where people queue to get in speaks volumes. We got there before the busy periods both nights and managed to get straight in. Inside awaits a really friendly relaxed dining experience. We ate there 2 nights whilst on holiday after being recommended to eat there. We can thoroughly recommend the fish and chips and the hot and spicy chicken burger. Just gutted we have nothing that matches closer to home! 🖒🖒🖒

Been to squires a few times before and the food has always been excellent, it seems to have been done up a bit since we came last. We arrived at the restaurant at 11.45 and they said they start frying from 12 but said we could take a seat and order a drink, we sat for about 10 minutes and she asked if we wanted a drink which I then pointed out we hadn't been given any menus yet, she brought the drinks menu only and we ordered a milkshake which was excellent and very thick. By 12.10 other people were being seated and given menus and orders were taken yet we still hadn't got a menu, I had to try and get a waitresses attention as we don't know where our original waitress had gone then we were finally able to order then I think it was the manager who took our order and she was very friendly. We did notice there were a few people that must have been regulars as they seemed to be given priority and akot more attention. The food was excellent but the staff didn't look like they wanted to be there, if we were rating just for food we'd give it a 5

Wasn't as impressed as I have been previously. Order was not as requested. Staff seemed a little disengaged compared to previous visits. Ordered a quorn quarter pounder and chips. Only to be told the quarter pounder was not available but the quorn special was. Although it seemed like the burgers had been changed to a lesser quality non quorn burger. (Possibly a tesco own brand). Not only that but the price was higher for this option.

Ordered it with lettuce, mayo and cheese only. It arrived with tomato and cucumber too. It's not difficult to get a simple order like that spot on especially when it was fairly quiet in the there.

Will try again next time I visit and hope that it has gone back to its original quality.

But no one came near us to take our order, my partner went down stairs to see if someone was coming up to take the order, a young girl came up by this time it was 12.05, ok no doubt they were busy. We waited and waited for our drinks eventually asked the waitress at 12.20 what had happened to our drinks and food. She came back and said food being dished up now, a lad came with the drinks. When food arrived at 12.35 it was minus the mushy peas so another wait. When I went to till to pay the young girl didn't acknowledge me at all just looked at bill rang it in and when she gave me my change didn't say Thank You!!!!! I think some of your staff could do with some customer service training. We come very often and I must admit this is the

worse experience we have had, the waitress did say they

were short staffed!!

Great food...awful service. Waited forever and had to ask twice for service. It was not busy when we went at 4.00 so do not know why the service was so bad? It took an hour and a half to have a main course and 1 sweet!... Seems to be bad service if there is no member of the Squire family overseeing the restaurant as this has happened before!...such a shame as the food is excellent and we have been visiting this place for 11 years so I really hope they will address this problem.

Food was excellent but service was very poor . We sat at our table for nearly 25mins before we were approached to place our order . When the food arrived there were items missing so we carried on eating then nearly 10 mins later the rest arrived . You really need to train your staff better .

Can understand the hype about the place, aesthetically it was decent and the food was alright at best. The batter lacked flavour and the fish that I was given was over fried so the cod had none of its wonderful creamy taste. The chips were olay, the salt and vinegar stayed on them well and equally. The battered mushrooms were nice but again the batter had no flavour. Overall it could have been a lot better. gg
