About St Albans School

St Albans School is one of the UK’s leading independent schools, balancing academic excellence with the development of pupils’ personality and character.

St Albans School Description

Founded in 948, St Albans School combines rich traditions with the latest in teaching techniques and facilities. The School benefits from both the tranquil setting of St Albans Abbey and its city centre location.

With 840 pupils, the School is renowned for academic excellence and enviable exam results, but also emphasises the importance of extra-curricular interests in the education of well-rounded individuals. Its recently-built Sports Centre, complete with sports hall, swimming pool, fitness suite, climbing wall and dance studio offer superb facilities and the Woollams Playing Fields provide pitches for rugby, hockey, cricket and football, with outdoor courts for tennis and netball.

A St Albans student has a full day. Aside from lessons, they might rehearse for a stage production; they could be practising for a debating competition or completing an art sculpture; they might be designing and manufacturing a piece of furniture or they could be training in the gym, for the weekend’s big match. Alternatively, they might be leading science master classes with local primary school children. The School’s vision and energy ensures its pupils continue to achieve academic distinction, whilst developing their personality and character to enable them to play a leading role in the wider world.
