EVENT | Scare Fest 2018
“We are definitely increasing the fear factor for this year – but all in the name of fun, of course. If you love Halloween or scary films, then the Scare Fest is definitely for you. The imagination is a very powerful thing, and most people love a good, old-fashioned and, most importantly, safe fright at Halloween.”
Andy’s at St Andrew’s Hospice looks after children and young people from birth to the age of 25 with any progressive life-limiting illness.... They travel from around the entire Lincolnshire area, as well as Hull and East Yorkshire, to access its free palliative care, either for respite or as an in-patient.
St Andrew’s is one of a handful of hospices who run both adult and children’s services on the same site. It costs £5.5-million a year to run, and only a small percentage of that is granted by statutory bodies.
Becky continued: “Andy’s really is an amazing place and we rely on the generosity of the communities we support to continue our work. I hope I’ve inspired people to get involved in the Scare Fest and our other fun events.”

📸 | We recently held a retirement breakfast in the Hub at the hospice for Monty, one of our volunteer gardeners.
A group of his volunteering colleagues and friends gathered to celebrate the occasion with bacon, egg and all the trimmings.
Monty who is now 80 years plus has decided to hang up his spade after some 20 years active work in the hospice gardens, a task he has thoroughly enjoyed.
... He always has a smile on his face and is a lovely, kind, modest gentleman and well liked by all who have had the privilege to meet him. 🌳

EVENT | Scare Fest - Saturday 27th October 2018 - Chambers Farm Wood, near Wragby. 👻
The Scare Fest is being staged to raise money for Andy’s at St Andrew’s, the children’s unit at the site in Peaks Lane, Grimsby, and it promises to be even more thrilling than last year’s, which saw people from all over the county take part.
Becky Darnell, Charity Fundraiser & Events Coordinator said: “We received some great feedback from last year’s event and this time around we will include... two walks.
“The Trick or Treat Trail is suitable for families and children under-12 and will start at 5.30pm, with the full Scare Trail for adults and over-12s taking place later in the evening. 🎃
“It’s guaranteed to be one of the spookiest fundraising events of the year,” she said. “The terrain is firm and the route is clearly marked… it’s the surprises and shocks along the way that people need to watch out for!

FUNDRAISING | Grandfather and grandson duo, Steve Brewitt and Cole Owen, embarked on a journey to walk The Viking Way to raise funds for St Andrew’s Hospice.
The route is a long distance footpath running 147 miles between the Humber Bridge and Oakham in Rutland. It passes through the Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the market town of Horncastle, the Lincolnshire Limewoods, the City of Lincoln, the southern Lincolnshire Edge and the Kesteven Uplands before entering L...eicestershire and Rutland.
Established in 1976, the name of the route was suggested by the Ramblers Association to reflect the influence of the Danelaw in the eastern counties of Britain. The route is way-marked throughout its length with a Viking helmet.
Cole, who was 9 years old at the time of the walk said: “It was really hard at the start, but as we got towards the end, I got the hang of it. I just thought that I’ve got to raise money for the people who need it for treatment at the hospice, so that they can get a good quality of healthcare.”
Proud grandfather, Steve commented: “The whole journey was hard, as it was hot at the time and the hiking was difficult too. However, those 4 days, I wouldn’t have missed for the world and Cole kept me going. We bonded on the journey and had a good time, despite the heat and the tiredness at times.”
Cole and Steve walked a total of 107 miles over 4 days and raised £1345.17 for St Andrew’s Hospice.
Pupils and staff at Cole’s school, Old Clee Primary Academy, also helped towards raising their total funds by making a donation to attend school in their own clothes during the World Cup 2018.
If you’d like to take on The Viking Way yourself, you can read about the route and download PDFs of the map and guidebook here: https://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/…/walki ng/vi…/120966.article

As dusk turns to night on Saturday, October 27, the atmosphere will become terrifyingly bone-tingling at the hands of St Andrew’s Hospice.
The woodland is once again being transformed into Halloween spectacular, where witches hang out in the undergrowth and ghosts are ready to spook you at every turn.
The Scare Fest is being staged to raise money for Andy’s at St Andrew’s, the children’s unit at the site in Peaks Lane, Grimsby, and it promises to be even more thrilling than l...ast year’s, which saw people from all over the county take part.
Participants will this year walk a 1.5-mile course through deep, dark woodland and by open countryside, with all manner of blood-curdling obstacles in their way and, thanks to feedback received through social media, the 2018 event will feature a family-themed walk for the first time.
Sign up to the Scare Fest at https://www.standrewshospice.com/…/scar efest-2018-scare-tr…/ or call the fundraising team on 01472 350 908.
Participants are asked to collect sponsorship, as the registration fees are used to cover costs.

Today my wife took me to st Andrews Hospice. Being terminally ill and needing to have our home adapted to my needs . They invited me to go and have a bath. I went with some apprehension and that turned out to be so silly. The staff I met were very pleasant and very welcoming. As I’m not able to help myself very much two ladies took me through . It would be an injustice to describe them as very professional and some what proficient in their ability. Those two things they were but beyond that, they treated me with dignity and more like a family member. These two ladies put me at ease strait way and made it so much fun. In the past I’ve dug deep for the collection boxes, never in my wides dreams did I expect to be a recipient of that donation . So not only would I like to thank st Andrew and the staff, I d like to thank every member of the public hows given a donation however large or small. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Glenn Ian Beedie. Rare illness called Multi system Atrophy.
