St Ann’s Remembers: The Spirit of Manchester Flower Festival at St Ann’s church
On Monday 21st May to Wednesday 23rd May, we will be hosting ‘The Spirit of Manchester’ Flower Festival to commemorate the 12-month anniversary of the Manchester Arena bombing, in partnership with ‘Flowers North West’.
... Following this heart-breaking event, St Ann’s Square became a shrine to those who were killed in the attack, with mourners flocking to the city to pay their respects, leave floral tributes and to show solidarity with one another. The Square became a sea of flowers. St Ann’s Church also became a focal point, for people seeking solace, comfort and support.
The flowers laid in the Square were an astonishing expression of our city’s response to the tragedy. It is estimated that around 250,000 – 300,000 tributes were laid in the three weeks after the bombing. It was our privilege to meet so many people.
It is hoped that the various events being held in our city around the 12-month anniversary will allow us to remember all those affected and strengthen relationships and solidarity for all Mancunians, whatever their religion, their background or politics.
The Festival will also feature an Art Exhibition, ‘Embracing Manchester’ by artist, Ghislaine Howard.
