St Catherine'S College, Oxford Description

Welcome to St Catherine's - Oxford's youngest mixed (undergraduate and graduate) college - and one of its largest and most diverse communities. Though the 1962 opening of the College represented an important moment in our distinguished history, our roots stretch back to the 1860s.

St Catherine's - or Catz as it is affectionately known - is known for its spirit of openness, friendliness and dynamism, and the satisfaction of intellectual curiosity. Despite advancing within Oxford University's ancient tradition, our atmosphere is a distinctly modern one.

Our striking modernist College buildings and our beautiful grounds, designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen, aid our distinctiveness.

Read below on BBC News the amazing true story of Holocaust survivor Lien de Jong, whose struggle for survival during World War II has been documented in ‘The Cut Out Girl’, the latest book by our Fellow in English Bart Van Es. ‘The Cut Out Girl’ will also be featured as BBC Radio 4’s Book of the Week throughout the whole of next week – don’t miss it!

You did it! Thanks to over 200 alumni who have donated this month, we have unlocked a £15,000 donation from one of our Catz couples - we are so grateful to you for helping us reach this target.
If you haven’t managed to donate yet, but would still like to, all donations until midnight tonight will unlock a further donation of £150! You can donate online here: www.stcatz.ox.ac.uk/giving-to-stcatz

Thank you to everyone that has made a gift to the College this financial year to help support our aim of continuing to offer a first class education to students of all backgrounds.
Earlier this month, a generous Catz couple set us a challenge: if 200 alumni made a gift throughout July, they would donate £15,000 – and we need just 16 more donations, of any size, to make this happen.
Can you help us unlock this £15,000 today? Visit our website to give online: www.stcatz.ox.ac.uk/giving-to-stcatz

150 years ago on this day, a Statute was passed founding the ‘Delegacy for Unattached Students’ – which evolved into St Catz as we know it today. The Delegacy was established so that students would be able to gain an Oxford education without the prohibitive costs of college membership, and we’re excited to be celebrating our 150th Anniversary over the next academic year!

To celebrate World Environment Day earlier this week, the JCR ran a photo competition asking students to send in photos of themselves fighting plastic pollution. Thanks to all who got involved, and congratulations to Emma Raven (2017, Biological Sciences) for her winning photo (middle row, third from left) demonstrating buying unpackaged fruit and veg as a student!
