Namaste is a Hindu term meaning ‘to honour the spirit within’. Namaste Care has been introduced into our In-Patient Unit, for any patients that may benefit from some gentle, sensory relaxation and a social visit. We have already had positive feedback that we have lifted people’s spirits with the visits, so it is an additional way we can provide comfort and add to the already excellent care in IPU.

Get hands-on with amazing sporting memorabilia right in Durham City Centre. We've been lucky enough to have the items here at the Hospice for our Living Well Centre guests to enjoy. Meet Gail & Kris Gail is a Physiotherapist and Kris is an Electrician Three words to describe us: “parents having fun!” “We are taking part in Strictly St Cuthbert’s as we are parents of children who dance at Dudman Academy of Performing Arts and we were persuaded to participate by them. We wanted to take on the challenge as we were keen to learn to dance and support such a fantastic charity. We both realise how important it is to provide good support and care to people and t...heir families during such challenging times and we wanted to do what we could to support this cause - even if it means embarrassing ourselves by dancing in front of all these people!”

Meet our Strictly St Cuthbert's 2020 Contestants!
Tickets to come and see them strut their stuff at the glitzy Grand Finale are on sale now. The big event will take place on Saturday 7th March at The Lancastrian Suite Gateshead and is just like the much-loved TV show. Featuring video highlights from the couples training sessions, performances from professional dancers and an expert judging panel.
Spectators will be swept up in the Strictly magic as they watch the contestants ...tango, jive and salsa across the dance floor and hear the judges’ comments on each routine before three couples go head to head in the dance-off.
During the evening, you’ll have the chance to have your say too as part of the 'Audience Vote.'

For the past couple of years, our staff and volunteers at the Hospice have held their own Pancake Party in our staffroom on Pancake Day! We wholeheartedly recommend it! 😋
Simply circulate a list of toppings and each person puts their name down to bring one in. Then on the day, everyone brings their own microwaveable pancakes to enjoy and you all pop a donation in a tin for the Hospice. The only question is - do you prefer sweet or savoury? 🤔

Pay a visit to the Hospice Coffee Shop and you might just be tempted to try out the brand new salad bar. For £1.95 you can fill a tub from the self-serve selection with whatever you like. This is a brilliant new healthy addition to the café! Well done to the catering team for making this possible. We're open 10-3pm every weekday.

From now until 10th March 2020 The Cosy Club will be donating 10p to the Hospice from every tea or coffee sold.
They have also put a team together to take on the 3 peaks challenge for St Cuthbert's next month! The challenge involves climbing Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough peaks in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. They aim to complete the 24-mile walk and 1500m of ascent within 12 hours!

As part of our commitment to dementia care, we hold regular Dementia Friends sessions at the Hospice. This week we held another successful session with the help of Ann White MBE. Ann is a Dementia Friends Champion and member of Dementia Friendly Durham City. We are so very grateful to her for her continued support at St Cuthbert's and helping us to learn and understand more about this condition which affects so many of those we love.
