It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a month since you went orange for us on Orange Wednesday. 🍊
By going orange, playing orange and shopping orange, you have already raised almost £8,000 to provide care for local people and their families, living with a potentially terminal illness. Thank you to the schools, businesses, community groups and individuals who made this possible.
If you’ve raised money and haven’t got around to sending it in yet, find out how here 👉 http...s://buff.ly/2PIQEIg
It takes a community to make a hospice. Thank you!

We would like to thank all the staff at St Giles Whittington. For the care you gave our dad for his last weeks of his life. You are truly world class and deserve more recognitions for the palliative care that you give. You treated our dad with respect and compassion and kept us, his family, informed of all his treatments and care. Once again we say thank you. We think you are all angels in disguise.

User

We can never thank St Giles enough for the fantastic care given to my mom over the last ten days of her life. The palliative care, staff and facilities are second to none. Admittance to St Giles meant that mom became largely pain free and we her were able to concentrate on loving mom rather than desperately trying to organise medical care at home with limited success. As a family we will do all we can to repay our debt to such a worthwhile organisation. Thank you.

User

Truly amazing the care given not only to my brother but also his wife, daughters and family. My brother raised some money for St Giles last year and to see how it's spent and how they deserve every penny and more. Know one wants to be in these places but if you need too then they can give support all the time. Keep up the good work it's appreciated by us. X

User

The support of the community team (Mandy M) enabled my dear husband to die peacefully at home surrounded by his family. I can never thank her enough for the understanding, the humour and the compassion that she showed to us. This service is truly amazing.

User

The care my amazing nan received by staff here for the final 3 weeks of her life was beyond expectation. When we were told she was going in a hospice it filled you with dread after reading about other people experiences but going to st Giles really made us feel at ease knowing she was being treated like a real person tiny little things like kissing her head and spraying perfume on her after she had been freshened up just made us feel and know she had the best possible care. She sadly gained her angel wings 14th December and a very short battle but even till the very end staff were superb and we were happy to hand a donation bucket over which we collected at her funeral xx

User

Thank you Karen Stokes, and all the ladies that nursed Reg at home , I couldn't have done it with out you guys, and Lisa for being there with us during his last few hours, A big thank you, Kay & mark Peach..

User

St Giles I cannot thank you enough for the outstanding care and support you gave to both Mum and our family. You gave Mum the compassion, dignity and respect she deserved during her final 2 and a half weeks. You will always have a special place in my heart for that. I will continue to donate to this amazing charity for the rest of my life as I feel there is no other way to repay your kindness.

User

St Giles Hospice is probably a scary thought to most people. But having experienced it first hand with my mom. This hospice provides not only amazing care but also the friendliness of all the staff makes being here actually pleasurable and you know 1 Million percent that your loved one will be cared for like a member of the royal family. Also my dog was allowed to visit too.

Thank you St Giles Hospice for your amazing work, care to my mom and also the support for the family and the friendly atmosphere.

God bless you all

My grandad spent the last two weeks of his wonderful life in st Giles(Whittington) the dignity and respect he was given was more then we could of asked for and the care was outstanding not only did the staff make sure my Grandad spent his last two weeks pain free and peaceful they were a huge support network to my family and for that st. Giles will always have a very big place in my heart, not only do we raise money when possible for the hospice we donated a lump sum shortly after we lay my Grandad at rest, but nothing will be enough to show how grateful we are

thank you again for everything you did for the man that ment everything to me

My beautiful mother spent her final few days in the care of St Giles Hospice in Walsall. The place itself is beautiful, a home not a hospital. The team of nurses there, especially Suzanne, Rachel and Patience were lovely, they let us stay with our mom help look after her and understood how difficult it was. They treated my mom like the lady she is with respect and I can't thank them enough for that. A wonderful place to say goodbye.

User

It has been 12 years since my Mom passed away , but when I think of the care that was given to her and all the family from u all it really warms my heart , I know she had the best care any one could have wished for xxx

I've been attending St Giles Hospice for just under 18 months now.

I am 42 years of age, married and have two children and have a brain tumour.

That is the last sad input I shall be making on this review.

Having such an illness can bring on depression.

On attending my doctors I was offered a chance to attend St Giles. Yes the word Hospice sounded negative. I will convince you that St Giles is not.

Each day there was a day group and I was allocated 'say' Wednesday where the group met each Wednesday for 12 weeks.

We were all poorly in differing ways. But we all had something in common that we could share in discussion with how we dealt or could deal with things as we have that understanding of each other that others struggle with.

I chose to throw myself straight away and was amazed at how much I benefitted in such little time by engaging with the group members.

But it's not just the 'patients'. There is plenty more.

We have craft sessions with topics relating to the time of the year. I'm rubbish at crafting but everyone can do their bit and sat round the table we have a great time. There is nothing serious about our chat most of, if any of the time!

It has been and continues to be a great relief for myself and my wife being away in a different place with new friendsThe staff are amazing, ready to help when it's needed or giving advice.

There are therapy sessions offered that I would never have given any thought of before but have helped my mind in many ways.

St Giles is a place we can all share and benefit from. It's my day of the week.

The one I look forward to. The word hospice should perhaps be removed.

The poor time that 'we' are going through can be cushioned and spirits lifted.

Please don't see the word hospice as being attached to sadness.

I have just returned from there. I feel great because I've had a great day with my friends, I have had a great lunch, great chat and laughter and feel I have an extra arm of support there for me.

If you're in a similar position to myself and my friends you should consider visiting St Giles and seeing what it is really like and not how you may be thinking.

Hope to see you soon my friend x

Eleven years ago my husband was admitted to St Giles aged 52. Sadly he passed away a few days later. For the last ten years I have carried out voluntary work for St Giles as a Ward Receptionist and more recently supporting the Ward Clerks which is the most rewarding thing I have ever done.

St Giles Hospice is the most wonderful place where the love and smiles far outweigh the sadness.

I can never repay the hospice for the way the staff cared for Ian and the compassion they showed to myself and my family, but I try to support St Giles wherever I can. In fact when I was 60 I had a Black & White Ball and asked friends and family to donate to St Giles rather then give presents. With their help & support I raised over £1000.

Volunteering is a great way to give something back.

All the nurses and voluntary staff are excellent and are really caring and easy to talk to. The lunches are always cooked to a high standard and there is always plenty of choice. I go there once a week every Tuesday

User

A massive thankyou to Walsall st giles for the amazing care that my wonderful nan received during her last week with us before she sadly passed away on the 12th december 2017. The staff treated my nan with so much care, compassion, dignity and respect and they could not do enough for her or our family.

It was one of my nans final wishes to go to St giles hospice and im so grateful that it was made possible. She couldnt stay at home in her final days, but was made to feel like she was at home, we all were. The hospice will always have a special place in my heart and i will never be able to thank you enough xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
