St. Margaret'S Somerset Hospice

About St. Margaret'S Somerset Hospice

At the heart of Somerset's community, we provide compassionate and specialist palliative care to individuals and their families who are facing a life-limiting illness whenever and wherever it is needed within the county and surrounding borders.

St. Margaret'S Somerset Hospice Description

Through our medical expertise, nursing skills and specialist support services, we provide physical, emotional and spiritual care to over 3, 200 patients and their families each year.

We put our patients at the heart of all we do; treating symptoms, controlling pain and caring for their emotional, psychological and spiritual needs. We support the whole family through a wide range of services such as intensive care in our inpatient units, care at home, outpatient care, complimentary therapies and bereavement support for those who need it. We also support a wide range of carers, young and old. We provide care and support for families and friends for as long as they need us. We rely on over 1, 200 volunteers to help deliver our care.

Hospices are normally associated with cancer. We care for anyone with a life shortening illness including motor-neurone disease, cardiac failure, renal failure, chronic respiratory disease and other life shortening conditions.

We provide our services for free. St. Margaret’s is a charity – we are not part of the NHS. Our income comes from the NHS and charitable sources from our local community. It costs over £10m each year to run our service. After NHS funding we still need to raise £7. 5m to deliver our care. We are dependent upon the generosity of our Somerset Community.

This is amazing! Thank you so much to everyone that attended SheppyFest 2018 and purchased sunflowers, garlands and hats.
The money you've raised could pay for 2 days of care for a patient in one of our In-patient Units AND for one of our 24-hour adviceline nurses to support a patient in need during the middle of the night. 🌻

There is still time to use your little blue Tesco token to vote for our hospice.
We are asking shoppers in Somerset to help us win a cash boost from Tesco’s Bags of Help scheme.
The initiative sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales awarded to local projects.

Thank you to 16-year-old Bethany and her friends from NCS - National Citizen Service who raised money to install solar lights in our Yeovil hospice garden.
Bethany's Mum was cared for at the hospice and it was her last wish to see the garden lit up. Bethany has now fulfilled this promise and helped to light up the garden for our patients and their families.
Thank you to BBC Somerset who came down to the hospice yesterday to film the lights being installed by Bethany and her friends.

User

Thank you to our wonderful volunteer Sue who sent us this picture of her sunflower-y van!
She decked out the van with sunflowers when she was volunteering at Ile Valley Classic Vehicle Club's Portway Classics event on Sunday.
The event, organised by John and Bernie, raised £260 for our hospice which could pay for a Specialist Community Nurse visit for two of our local patients being cared for at home and for a patient to spend a day in our Sunflower Day Care Centre, meeting ...people in similar situations, receiving important symptom control and providing crucial respite for carers.🌻
