On Wednesday, the chaplaincy team joined the other schools in our diocese for Bishop Richard's Good Shepherd Celebration at Worth Abbey, where the theme was 'We are bread for the world'. The girls enjoyed meeting new friends and exploring the Abbey with its beautiful grounds. Thank you girls for being such super ambassadors for St. Teresa's.

Our inaugural ‘Values Week’ took place this week, celebrating this year’s value of faith. It would be difficult not to see evidence of faith all around the school this week, with students and staff interacting with one another on our ‘Faithbook’ in the dining hall, writing haiku poems on the theme of love, performing gospel songs at Thursday’s mass, learning about heroic horses in equestrian, singing along to lots of feel-good tunes at ‘breakaoke’ each morning, folding 4,500 ...origami hearts and flowers for our incredible art installation and, above all, acknowledging and celebrating the hope, trust and love that exist at our school. iPray24 saw room 7 utterly transformed into a sacred space, with members of the school community praying around the clock for 24 hours! An enormous thank you to Mrs O’Dea, Deacon Simon and Mr O’Farrell for their energy and enthusiasm. If any parents would like to see Room 7 please do come along today at pick up time.

This week Year 1 went on a fantastic trip to Birldworld. Luckily the weather stayed sunny and dry and allowed us to really explore the sanctuary. We met a variety of different species such as owls, parrots, penguins and many more. We saw birds and other animals from all over the world. In the morning, we watched the penguins being fed as well as getting to hold mice, chickens, ducklings, rabbits and a chinchilla! Then after lunch we had a train ride to get a closer look at some of the birds before entering Underwater World and finding a crocodile! It was a really exciting day!

Mrs O’Dea kicked off Faith Week at our first whole school assembly of the week, introducing the incredible schedule of events that we have lined up to celebrate our value of faith. 2000 origami hearts and flowers to be folded by Friday? We can do this! This afternoon we welcome Kayte Cable co-founder and project manager of The Big Leaf Foundation, a charity founded to work alongside displaced young people in the United Kingdom, who will speak to us about their inspirational work. It’s all about opening our hearts, looking up and seeing how we can be of service. #dosomethingforlove

Armed with clipboards, magnifying glasses and pooters, Year 2 had a fantastic time identifying the minibeasts in our school environment. They spotted a number of creatures including centipedes, a spider with eggs and even a newt!

Year 4 had a wonderful time at Sayers Croft this week. Activities such as a blindfold trail and caving enhanced their team building skills as well as pushing their boundaries. They also enjoyed climbing on giant boulders, den building, pond dipping and toasting marshmallows by the campfire!

Year 3 had a fantastic chocolate workshop today as part of their topic “Scrumdiddlyumptious” – they made their own chocolate lollies, learnt about the history of chocolate, designed their own packaging and even had a chocolate tasting.

Eighteen girls from Years 3-5 took part in an athletics event at Manor House. The girls were focused and determined and this showed in their performances. Eight first places on the track, including winning the U8 and U9 relays. We also won the U8 and U10 high jump. A superb effort from all of them.

Yesterday, Year 5 had another fantastic cooking session with Gary as part of the 'Chefs Adopt A School' scheme. This time, we were learning about how to make bread and after finding out about the history of bread making, it was time to get stuck in! All bread was taken home, with talk of turning the dough into mini pizzas, garlic dough balls and cheesy rolls, among other things. Thank you to Gary and Bev for their organisation and sharing their expertise with Year 5.

On Wednesday Dr. McShane, Dr. Poffley and Mrs. Randall took our Year 9 Latin students to visit the city of Bath - a major religious and cultural centre in Roman Britain and the setting for many of the stories they have studied in the Cambridge Latin Course this year.
The day began with a session handling some of the artefacts found on the Roman Baths site – tesserae from the floor mosaics, painted wall panels, coins, brooches and brick moulds, as well as replicas of delicate ...oil lamps, perfume flasks, and strigils (the tool one used to scrape off the olive oil that served the Romans instead of soap). The girls were also introduced to some of the tombstones found on the site, the Latin inscriptions on which reveal interesting stories about visiting Germanic soldiers, unfortunate children who died in infancy, and a particularly self-important soothsayer who did all he could to make sure the locals knew exactly how important he was.
After a break for lunch in the gloriously sunlit Parade Gardens, the girls returned to the Baths to tour the museum and excavations. The route began on the mock-Roman balcony above the Great Bath, built by Georgian architects to lend the view some of the grandeur it had in Roman times. We followed the route round through exhibits on the religious significance of the Temple of Sulis, the complexity of the drainage channels that fed the baths, the importance of bathing to Romano-British citizens, and the many curse tablets dropped in the sacred pools to bring the wrath of Sulis Minerva down on enemies. To avoid this happening to our party we made sure to drop a few coins of our own into one of the sacred pools, with an appropriate Latin invocation for good fortune.
After purchasing an impressive array of chocolate denarii, gorgoneion fridge magnets, toiletries, badges and bookmarks (and a crafty stop for ice-cream) the girls boarded the coach and headed back to school. Sadly even Sulis Minerva was unable to do much about the traffic on the M4 on the way back, but everyone was pleased with the day and returned (eventually) a little wiser in the ways of Roman life.
