St Thomas More Catholic School, Willenhall Description

St Thomas More Catholic School is a mixed comprehensive school and sixth form serving the communities of Walsall and Wolverhampton.

Founded in 1973 by the Archdiocese of Birmingham, the school has provided a distinctive Catholic education for forty years.

In 2003 the school community moved to a new site, in a state of the art building, which remains exemplary in its design. The new school was blessed and officially opened by His Grace Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Birmingham.

The mission of the school is focused on the spiritual, moral and academic development of all our students in a safe, caring and loving environment. In this, we follow the example of our patron, St Thomas More, who remains an inspiration to our community 400 years after his martyrdom.

Students today shall be going to the theatre to see a production of An Inspector Calls. The play is a three-act drama which takes place on a single night in April 1912. The story focuses on the upper middle-class Birling family, who live in a comfortable home in the fictional town of Brumley, "an industrial city in the north Midlands".
We hope they enjoy the production.

Today two sixth formers and a member of the History department are travelling to Bergen Belsen as part of the Holocaust project Belsen 75.
This year marks the centenary of the liberation of Bergen Belsen by British forces. The visit will provide our students with the chance to reflect upon the significance of Bergen-Belsen and explore the testimonies of survivors and liberators of the camp.

Year 11 will commence their next round of mocks on Monday 24th February. These examinations will be carried out in a formal style in the sports hall, in order that students are more familiar with the procedures for external examinations. This will be the final round of mock examinations before the external examinations begin in May. The mocks are focused on students core subjects. The exam timetable is now available to download from our website.
As an additional support to st...udents, our site also has regular updates with revision tips, dates of examinations and communication from departments. Information will also be added to Show My Homework. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any issues in accessing either site. It is imperative that students revise for these examinations. Students will be given examination, revision planners to utilise over half term. Please ensure students use these to help guide and focus revision.
We thank you in anticipation of you support with this period of examination preparation. If there are any concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Dawson. https://www.st-thomasmore.walsall.sch.uk/ year-11-revision-…/

We are delighted to share with you our competition entry for the 75 Flames project to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2020.
Each form group has recorded a positive word or message to counter the hate and racism evident during the Third Reich.

Our Lady of Lourdes is a Roman Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated in honour of the Marian apparitions that occurred in 1858 in the vicinity of Lourdes in France. The first of these is the apparition of 11 February 1858, when 14-year old Bernadette Soubirous told her mother that a "lady" spoke to her in the cave of Massabielle

St Thomas More will celebrate “Safer Internet Day 2020” by encouraging our young people to explore how they manage their online identity, and how the internet shapes the way they think of themselves and others.
As a whole school community @STMwillenhall we look to cover a range of inspiring activities to raise awareness to create an inclusive internet. Pupils will be sharing their ideas of how the Internet allows them to express themselves, by participating in open whole cla...ss discussions and completing class activities around online identity.
Our aim is to help students feel inspired and empowered individually whilst supporting each other to be who they want to be, both online and offline.
We will, as a community @STMwillenhall, be spreading the word, and support Safer Internet Day. #FreeToBeMe

On Friday 14th February the school will be closed due to staff training.
The day is dedicated to reviewing our schemes of learning to ensure that the needs of our students are met to ensure on going progress for all. We will also be training key staff to support the emotional well-being of both staff and students.
This is not only in response to the national agenda at present but as part of our unique ethos and vocation as a Catholic school and community.

We have become aware of reports that students at a number of secondary schools across Staffordshire, Stoke and Cheshire East have been contacted by a bogus modelling company, 'Starlett’ or ‘Scarlett Bookings Agency'.
Students are contacted through the Instagram app and pressured into sending inappropriate images. Initially victims are asked to send photos of themselves wearing their favourite outfits. Afterwards the bogus company makes requests to send images containing nudit...y, with threats being made against children who do not comply. We have not verified the authenticity of these reports but felt it is important to inform parents.
If anyone has any concerns regarding this matter please contact Mr S Burns, the Designated Safeguarding Lead, at st-burns-s@st-thomasmore.walsall.sch .uk
