About Staffordshire University Student Enabling Centre

Welcome to Staffordshire University Student Enabling Centre on Facebook!

Staffordshire University Student Enabling Centre Description

Here at Staffordshire University, we recognise that students will, from time to time, require support and that many of our disabled students will need individually tailored support for part, or all, of their course.

We're here to ensure that you have access to a full assessment of your study related needs and a support service that delivers exactly what you need to allow you to access your course successfully.

Working with you, we aim to provide you with an individually negotiated support programme that may include:

* Guidance and help with applications for Disabled Students’ Allowances *

* Provision of academic support *

* Provision of support to help with mobility where that is not the responsibility of your home Social Services Department *

* Provision of specialist support *

This list is not exhaustive and we will take full account of all of your support needs when we meet you.

We recognise that sometimes disclosing that you are disabled is difficult. We encourage disclosure because we believe this is the best way to ensure that you get the support to which you are entitled. However, we will always recognise and respect your right to confidentiality.

We also recognise that thinking you may have a disability is just as difficult. If you encounter difficulty whilst on your course, please make an appointment with us and we will help you with the support you need. We offer screening appointments for Specific Learning Difficulties, and are also able to offer a Specialist Advice Service and a Counselling service.

Should you require any further information or wish to book an appointment with one of our advisors, we are happy to discuss your support requirements. We have vast experience and support for:

* Deaf /Hearing Impairment *
* Blind /Visual Impairment *
* Specific Learning Difficulties: Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, ADHD *
* Autistic Spectrum *
* Physical Mobility *
* Mental Wellbeing Support *

We also offer interim support on an adhoc basis. Whatever your needs, please do not think you are alone. We are here to help and provide the support that will enable you to reach your full potential whilst at Staffordshire University.

Today is The United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture – 26 June is held annually on 26 June to speak out against the crime of torture and to honour and support victims and survivors throughout the world. Torture (from the Latin tortus, "twisted") is the act of deliberately inflicting physical or psychological pain in order to fulfill some desire of the torturer or compel some action from the victim. This Day brings to mind doing kind acts in the world and caring about people, especially those who suffer because of others ^NP
