Stainesplayers Description
History of the Staines Players
Formed in 1951, and therefore 60 years young, Staines Players was born out of "The Lea Repertory Company" and had it's
home for many years in the Old Town Hall in Staines. Founder member Dorothy Robertson, who acted for many years under the
name of Dorothy Carville, has fond memories of those early years. Dorothy is the current group President, and is still playing
an active part in the company.
Since leaving the Town Hall in their 50th year, Staines Players have performed at many venues, and can often be found
in Chertsey, Shepperton, Walton, Woking as well as Staines. We take a pride in the variety of plays we perform, tackling
everything from Shakespeare to Panto. Never afraid to tackle the unusual, Staines Players have entered the Spelthorne Festivals,
the Elmbridge Festivals, the Maidenhead Festivals with great success over the years and received nominations in most categories.
