EXPLORING CENSORSHIP AND CELEBRATING THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONTROVERSIAL RELEASE
OBJECTIVES:
- celebrate this year’s 40th anniversary of Stanley Kubrick’s groundbreaking, cult classic: A Clockwork Orange;
- increase Londoners' understanding of the historical and controversial facts surrounding A Clockwork Orange’s release in 1971, particularly in the UK and the US;
- enable a space for discussion and knowledge around A Clockwork Orange and the endless debates about violence, sex exploitation and censorship that have always surrounded the movie, offering a panel of discussion moderated by Richard Daniels, senior archivist from the Kubrick Archive, with special guests:
- Craig Lapper - member of the British Board of Film Classification
- Peter Kramer - senior lecturer at University East Anglia (Film and TV studies)
- Andrew Biswell - Director of the Anthony Burgess Foundation
- create a a one day special exhibition, under the name A CLOCKWORK ORANGE RELEASE – UNFOLDING THE “X” PAPERS, covering the film scandal, the controversial X-Rating and more!
- screening of the film in a exclusive thematic environment;
TIMETABLE:
- 3pm to 5pm: exhibition
- 5pm to 7. 15pm: screening A Clockwork Orange
- 7. 30pm to 8. 15pm: discussion panel
- 8. 30pm to Midnight: thematic party
