Hopefully this will clear up some of the confusion from yesterday's government announcement.
I feel very humbled by this wonderful review. Wow!
This month the County Durham fire brigade put out 4 chimney fires. If you haven't had your chimney swept for a while it could be that instead of enjoying your fire, you're playing with fire.... Be safe, protect your family and your home, have your chimney swept.

Here's a great article on the use of wood as a fuel.

These are also great for saving money on central heating costs when you don't have the fire on. Recommended.

If you haven't already got a carbon monoxide alarm then I recommend you purchase one. They could save your life or those of your loved ones. They are not expensive either with many available for less than £20. Available online, at good DIY stores and on the high street at Wilkinson's or Boyes.
Be a hero and buy one today.

It's this time of year when lots of people buy logs for burning on fires and stoves. It's important to only burn dry wood to avoid the formation of creosote in your chimney, a very real fire risk. Wood with a moisture content of 20%. or less is acceptable for burning. Over 20% and the wood is too wet to use and should be left to dry further.
So how do you check the moisture content of fire wood?
If you said with a moisture meter you'd be half right.... To accurately measure moisture content you need a moisture meter AND an axe. The wood being checked should be split with the axe and the meter used on the center of the freshly split face of wood. Doing this is the only way you can check the wood is dry all the way through and is safe to use.
Hope this is of help.

One of the byproducts of a fire is carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas which sadly claims lives every year. It's often referred to as the silent killer since you can't see it, you can't smell it and you can't taste it. The chimney normally safely removes this gas and vents it to atmosphere. However if the chimney is blocked the gas enters the property with potentially life threatening results. That's why it's so important to have your chimney swept regularly and ...to invest in a carbon monoxide detector. I found a really great website with loads of information.

As a professional chimney sweep I am often asked questions like " how often should the chimney be swept" or " do I need to cover the sofa"? However the prize for the best question I've been asked so far this year has to go to a family whose young daughter asked me;
"Can my teddy bear watch too?"
... Made my heart melt.

A big thank you to all my customers that have sent reviews on the chimney sweeps that I've done for them.
I have now received 50 reviews and they are all rated five out of five stars!
It means a lot to me to know that the extra care I take to keep the customers home clean is really appreciated. No mess, no fuss, no dust!
... Thank you all.

Big birds nest removed safely. This one was nearly a metre tall!
Small birds nest removed safely.
I'm really enjoying meeting my customers and many of them own pets. As a pet lover myself this is one of the perks of the job. I'd just completed a sweep recently and the customer was delighted with how clean I'd kept her home. So I felt honoured when she brought her pet into the room, a huge Macaw parrot! This was a great endorsement as I know parrots are very sensitive to dust and fumes. Kind regards, John
