About Star Throwers

Star Throwers is a local cancer support charity in Norfolk dedicated to supporting people with cancer and their carers, from diagnosis through to life after cancer.

Star Throwers Description

Star Throwers is a cancer support charity based in Wymondham, Norfolk dedicated to helping people affected by cancer. We support individuals to make informed decisions about their treatment options, including alternative treatments, and help them search for clinical trials when appropriate. We also offer complementary therapies, counselling, nutritional advice and lymphoedema support to people with cancer and their loved ones.

All of our services are completely free of charge but this is only possible thanks to the support of individuals and organisations donating and fundraising to help us to deliver these services and continue to improve the wellbeing of those affected by cancer.

Why the name Star Throwers? It is based on the following short story:

"After a heavy storm, a boy walked along the beach throwing the stranded starfish back into the sea.
A man watching shouted "there are too many of them - it won’t make any difference. "
As the boy threw another starfish back into the sea, he smiled and replied "it made a difference to that one! "

The Star Throwers centre is based in Wymondham, Norfolk:

On Saturday 6th February we went to the Norfolk Constabulary Head Office to say thank you to everyone at the Norfolk Constabulary for their amazing efforts in supporting Star Throwers throughout 2019. We were delighted to meet Chief Constable, Simon Bailey and receive monies totaling £3,616.29! Thank you to all the skydivers, cyclists, runners and individual donors who have supported Star Throwers through the Norfolk Constabulary in 2019.

We wanted to say a huge thank you to Sue who raised a fantastic £593.25 for Star Throwers by swimming in the River Wensum on Boxing Day and in the North sea at Gorleston on New Year's Day - in a bikini and Christmas hat! (photos shared with permission)
Sue said: "The support I've had from Star Throwers has been truly wonderful - it has eased my recovery from a second diagnosis of breast cancer and major surgery 12 months ago. I have spent many hours there, talking through difficulties, getting advice, having a relaxing massage and sometimes just sitting drinking coffee by the roaring coal fire. There is always a warm welcome. It's a very informal and homely place with friendly volunteers always on hand to make you a coffee."
If you have a fundraising idea or challenge please do contact us: victoria@starthrowers.org.uk
