Start Pilates Description

Pilates is an excellent way for people of all ages and levels of fitness to benefit, even people who have never done any form of physical fitness regime before. The slow controlled flowing movements primarily strengthen the core muscles and stabilise and support the spine, realign the body and help to correct postural problems.

WHAT IS PILATES?
The Pilates method is famous for building longer, leaner, stronger, and more flexible bodies. It compliments not only everyday movements and improves posture but it can compliment other exercise disciplines and sports.

WHAT CAN I ACHIEVE?
Pilates will help you to become stronger and healthier while improving your posture and general overall well being. Pilates can be used for rehabilitation after injury, illness and childbirth.

HOW?
Retraining your body and mind by focusing on breathing, coordination, stabilisation of the shoulders as well as over all posture.

WILL IT BE TOO DIFFICULT?
Pilates has over time become a very accessible way of training your body. All the exercises can be adapted or modified to ensure that they are appropriate for your body's ability. They can be made easier and harder with a simple change as directed by your instructor. Some people will always be challenged by the basic exercises and others will need more in order to see progression and movement to the next levels.

PILATES PRINCIPLES
Concentration, Breathing, Control, Centring, Precision, Flow, Body Awareness, Stamina, and last but not least Relaxation.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR AND BRING?
Pilates, being about body alignment means that you may consider wearing workout clothes that are comfortable and fitted so that the instructor can ensure that you are using your body's full potential. Pilates is usually done in bare feet or socks that have grip on the bottoms. Bring a mat and a small towel (which can be used for modifications and comfort). If you do not have a mat please contact me and I will make sure I have one for you. Please ensure you bring a completed PAR Q if you did not send it to me in advance.
