Steam Co Description

We believe in the power of creativity and people to engage children, innovate business and connect communities.

We're a charitable initiative that gives school communities the Inspiration and Resources to run STEAM Co. Days.

These 'school days like no other' are days of creative thinking and doing activities across the crucial STEAM* skills. They connect communities with schools and children with the curriculum and career /life pathways.

Creativity, in all its forms – thinking and doing, and particularly across the critical STEAM subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, ARTS and Maths is key to the UK’s future.

Yet our education system is already stretched to breaking point and there is growing feeling that:

“Schools kill creativity” - Sir Ken Robinson, No. 1 TED talk 2006 30m views.

“We have to get them in primary” - Prof Robert Winston, Mayor of London’s Education Conference 2013

There is a desperate need to keep creativity aliive in schools by tapping into skills in the local community to complement teachers’ great work and intentions.

STEAM Co. is a non-profit movement, co-founded by parents seven years ago.

They have engaged outside creatives, parents, teachers and the local community to collaborate to deliver STEAM Co Days; an adrenaline shot of creativity via up to 20 thinking and doing activities across the spectrum of STEAM subjects, with an emphasis on the arts – dance to art to modelling.

Activities to date have included building an eco-car, newspaper engineering, coding, the egg drop experiment, paper boat building, animation, architecture, electronic music, cardboard modelling, etc.

The impact of the day lasts through the year as inspiration for creativity /ongoing activities in the school.

We now want to see it rolled out across the UK.
