We posted a story about a brave little girl called Millie last week. Millie is literally a walking miracle and has some quite extensive surgery coming up.
Her parents wanted to undertake a challenge as a great achievement that Millie can look back on in years to come. She will be doing this by walking to the summit of Pendle Hill. This is quite a challenge for any 3 year old and especially for Millie who shouldn't be able to walk.
She wants to raise as much money as she can... for Steps. Even if it's just £1 Millie would be made up. This is also a story that we can share to spread awareness of hip dysplasia to make sure as many cases of hip dysplasia are picked up as early as possible.
Her JustGiving page is here...

And her full, incredible story is here...

So share, like and donate where you can 💙

This is Sara from Steps. Sara is community fundraiser and is most likely the person you talk to on the phone or speak to on Facebook. She also does a bit of everything else! We would say she is a pretty important person here at Steps. We love her! 💙
"I have been drafted in under the fundraising umbrella receiving emails from all our wonderful fundraisers to be! I dabble in a bit of everything from social media posts, fundraising, posting t-shirts, accou...nts, proofreading our factsheets and booklets to answering the helpline! My main duties can therefore be classed as administrative! Do I run around like a headless chicken? No, it can get very busy but it’s worth it and I’m not clucking yet! My biggest bugbear – couriers! The best bits – seeing all the wonderful children (and adults) overcome their conditions, being braver than I’ll ever be and challenging themselves at every step of their journey as well as all the fantastic families who help support them, us and each other (and the doctors and nurses too). I have a personal interest in the charity having a cousin with fibular hemimelia who now has a superb superheroes prothesis and a running blade which makes him super-fast! And no, I’ll not challenge him to a run – he’d beat me hands down!! So when I’m not on duty for Steps what do I do? Run around like a headless chicken of course! My daughters are competitive swimmers so I’m either on poolside assisting, officiating (not keen on DQ-ing) or sweating in the stands watching them train! It’s just me and them and because we have some fantastic beaches near to where we live we often body-board / surf and swim with the seaweed (well, they swim, I just pretend I’m good at it)! I was going to add that I do have a little time to myself having been involved in martial arts for the best part of 30 years (training and teaching) but for one, I am nowhere near as fit as I used to be, and two my youngest at nine has now decided to join in and train in the children’s classes! Before Steps I worked over 16 years as an FE lecturer (Media/Film Studies – up to HND level) watching many of my former students graduate was fantastic especially those who didn’t even believe they’d get to university. Later I worked in a special teaching facility at a local comprehensive for mainstream high achievers with autism/Aspergers a job which was extremely hard to say goodbye to as the pupils were amazing. This is the first year that I haven’t worked directly with children / young adults (aside from karate) but it’s definitely a step in the right direction – get it – a step – I don’t really take that word for granted!!"

This is Harley's story. Harley was born with left-sided talipes.
"Me and Ben are beyond proud of our little man, he’s doing so well wearing this awful cast. It’s so heavy as well, but will all be worth it once its all done and as mentioned before, will effect his development and walking in no way. So many children have things so much worse than what Harley has so we’re soooo lucky to have such a gorgeous healthy little boy."

This is the wonderful Sacha and her twin daughters. Both her daughters were born with DDH. They are now 2 years old and doing great.
Sacha has done a costal walk today from Sandbanks in Poole to Hengistbury head in Christchurch (roughly 9 miles of sandy goodness!). Here are all her selfies at each beach!
"A lot of people raise money in big ways by doing long distance runs or climbs etc but I thought it would be more appropriate to walk. Walking for so many people is second na...ture but for others a few simple steps is something they simply cannot do. I am hoping to raise as much money and awareness as i can for Steps, they are a completely amazing charity and help so many people and families effected by a vast number of lower limb conditions. I hadn't heard of them before and I guess like many small charities you don't know of them until you need you need them..."
Sacha still hasn't hit her £500 target so if you would like to donate please donate here... https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/st artedwiththekids
Sacha, thank you so much from all of us at Steps 💙
If you would like to fundraise for Steps then have a browse on our website at the fundraising section, we are full of ideas and there are plenty of things you can do to help. 👣

This is an incredible story about 3 year old Millie.
In July 2018 Millie's parents found out Millie had severe Bilateral Developmental Displacement of the Hip (DDH). DDH is a condition that affects the hip socket and ball joint and in cases of unilateral DDH the odds are 1 in 10000 but unfortunately for Millie she has the rarer bilateral DDH. Millie was born with this condition and it was left undetected for 3 years, and was only picked up as she could not cross her legs pro...

To coin a headline and article from SKY news… 'Even Sir Mo Farah struggled' - The immense challenge of this year's London Marathon…
Like everyone else who participated, I trained hard in cold weather, in rain, ice and even snow! And then out of nowhere comes the hottest London Marathon in history!
Despite the challenging conditions, the experience of the day itself was truly amazing – crowds, in places 5-10 people deep, lined the entire course right from the start at BlackHea...th and their support and encouragement is something I will never forget – it was a true example of the “Spirit of London”. For those interested, I ended up completing it slightly outside of my original target time in 3hrs 58 mins.
Most important of all though is the fantastic outcome for STEPS – through your support and generosity I have raised an incredible £6,675.38 (plus £1,185.05 of Gift Aid supplement) for a grand total of £7,860.43 (with perhaps a little more still to flow in to the final number)
I’m really pleased and so grateful to you all as that will make a significant difference to the work that STEPS are able to do especially as the sector is incredibly challenging at this time, and Steps is perceived as something of a niche charity. Unless people are directly affected, like my son, Seth, the conditions seem remote enough to unfortunately be ignored by many.
Once again a huge, huge thank you to each and every one of you (including the 2 totally anonymous donations I can’t thank personally) and I’ll finish with a post-race snapshot of a rather tired daddy and a very proud son who made a full recovery from his bilateral talipes thanks to STEPS incredible support !
Mark
Thanks Mark from all of us at Steps! 💙
