BBC Radio 3 presenter Claire Martin OBE has spent the last 30 years honing the craft of jazz singing. To worldwide critical acclaim, she has established herself as a tour de force on the UK jazz scene gaining many awards, including winning the British Jazz Awards seven times along the way.
Thanks to her jazz-loving parents, Claire grew up in a household full of great music. After leaving stage school she became a professional singer at 19 and two years later she realised her... dream of singing at Ronnie Scott’s legendary jazz club in London Soho. Claire has since released 18 CDs with the label, collaborating with musical luminaries including Martin Taylor, John Martyn, Stephane Grappelli, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett on many of these recordings.
Claire will be accompanied by guitarists Jim Mullen and rising Swedish player Erik Söderlind. Jim Mullen is one of Britain’s finest jazz guitarists. He started out playing with soul band Kokomo and touring with The Average White Band before forming popular jazz-funk group The Morrissey Mullen Band with saxist Dick Morrissey. In later years he has reverted to classic straight-ahead jazz to which he brings a voice-like warmth and astonish dexterity. Swedish guitar player Erik Söderlind is a rising star described by renowned guitarist Mike Stern as “a phenomenon - with a unique way of playing and a very personal tone". Influenced by Wes Montgomery and George Benson, Erik won the 2015 Guitar People Prize, the annual award given to the best guitar player in Sweden.
“Few vocalists are as elegant and eloquent as Claire Martin... she’s one of the crown jewels of the jazz world.” – All About Jazz
Tickets: £18.50, Concessions £16.50

Nice piece in the Echo although most of the photos are taken when it rained for a little while! There were 9 hours when it didn't rain 🌞😁

WOW, we have attended this event for many years, it's always a highlight of our summer. The organisation and entertainment is phenomenal. Bring on 2018!

User

Thanks to each and everyone behind the scenes. In the many years I have been stompin I have not seen a crowd like this and a perfect day. Swish of the curtain smashed it from Madness to Les Mis and as always Taverners were a perfect ending.

User

Great music and setting on the quay. Really nice atmosphere

User

Fantastic! Loved the stage and bandstand set up this year. It worked really well. Well done to everyone involved.

User

Enjoy it every year absolutely brilliant day

User

Enjoyed it all - even the music which wasn't my taste because it was so well done.

The rain shower didn't dampen spirits, in fact everybody laughed their way through under blankets and tarpaulins.

I took some great photos and videos which I will post here as soon as they have uploaded to Google

How come I'm the only review for this year - 2017?
