Who's coming to Peterborough this year? :)

User

We recently had a customer that drove from France to come and see us for his remap. Needless to say the feedback we got after his journey home was very positive.
We've previously had customers drive from Sweden, Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, The Netherlands, Ireland, Scotland and Wale. We must be doing something right! 🙂

Storm Tuning features again in the months edition of LRO magazine :) available in shops

Four Weddings and a Funeral - okay, we're a couple of weddings short :) but hey maybe next month?
Congratulations to our good friends Mr and Mrs Stacey as well as Mr and Mrs Quinn! 👰
We also extend our deepest sympathy to the French family. We're honoured to have paid a small part in a fitting send off.

Another Defender we transformed the performance of :)

A very nice example of a D2 we remapped recently. The owner was over the moon with the increase in torque and smooth linear power delivery through out the rev range compared to his previous remap, perfect for when it's used for towing! :)

User

Some of the horrors we come across when remapping previously tuned vehicles in an effort to get around limits engineered into the engines ECU. This is a built in "boost box"
The soldering leaves a lot to be desired! Not only does this stop the ECU from detecting a potentially destructive overboost condition but prevents the ECU from controlling the fuelling correctly and shortens the life of the MAP sensor.
This Zener diode that literally costs 2p is also what you find inside a plugin boost box.

Another commercial vehicle in for a Stage 2 map :)
This one belongs to Valeside Tree Care ltd and spends it's life towing chippers and felled trees so they were looking to improve low down torque.

Lands End next!

Today we had this immaculate 130 in for a Stage 2 remap.
It's used for transporting cars so is worked hard reguarly. It's owner wanted rid of the flat spot in the middle of the rev range and to make it a more useable tow vehicle while not sacrificing reliability.
We certainly didn't disappoint. Flat spots gone, smooth power delivery and pulling up hills in two gears higher than it did previously :)

Amazing work from Tom Scott Custom Artist 😍

Beast Mode Enabled! She's laying rubber even with ATB diffs!!

Edit: No the springs aren't soft, it's on HD springs. It's the torque reaction/twist due to the torque it's trying to handle :)

User

Off we went with the Defender to bring a D2 back. 10 miles, in the AC compressor seized up.
Defender on the trailer it was towing and then drag it back home with the good old D2 :)

User

Another happy customer :)
Excuse the language! 😂

How to "chip" a TD5 MSB ECU.
We often get asked if we can work on the older TD5 ECUs for the 10p engine and what do we do to them? So here's a brief insight into what we do :)
First we remove the existing EPROM (memory chip) with a temperature controlled hot air or rework gun.
... The existing solder is then removed from the PCB pads leaving a clean surface to rework ensuring the sockets pins will have maximum contact with the PCB's pads
After this the PLC44 socket can be positioned ready for soldering
It's then time to solder all 44 pins. Temperature control is critical. Enough heat must be transferred to enable the solder to flow properly and create a clean sound joint. Not enough heat or too much heat results in a dull joint or even worse, damage to the delicate PCB tracks.
We can then install the replacement EPROM that we have programmed with our performance software.
The ECU is bench tested before replacing the conformal coating on the PCB and the only thing left to do is install the ECU back in the customers vehicle
It's no black art but over a decade of experience working with electronics and the professional qualifications to match certainly help 😊

wow, got my stage 2 msb ecu back in this eve.... christ this thing goes like a stabbed rat :D

so much more grunt, and so much more responsive, standard if i pulled up to a junction at walking pace in 2nd it would be gutless going, now it drives like i'd expect it to.

defo money well spent :)

User

Would recommend to any one sound awesome. Has a lot more power then it had be for and also found me a few problems I need to sort out thanks again

User

WOW! These guys are amazing! I had no idea about mapping and dan walked me through it step by step remotely, now my d2 td5 feels like a different car! If you ever need a map, use these guys!

User

Took my old discovery to Daniel Matthews yesterday and he totally transformed my car I carnt recommend this bloke enough. Back in love with my disco cheers pal

User

Took my 2003 D2 TD5 auto on a 300 mile round trip to the LRO Show yesterday. Turns out my suspicions were correct and it already had a very mild remap, all be it a very lazily made one. It always pulled ok, but was never very smooth, and didn't enjoy motorway speeds much.

Visited Dan at Storm Tuning, he worked his magic, and now it drives like a different engine inside! Its so much smoother at 70-80 mph, maintains speed on hills with minimum throttle input, pulls like a train when under lockup and doesn't run out of steam going past 3000rpm. It sounds better on full throttle too! It will now launch from a stand still like a car would do, rather than a big 2.5 ton brick! Picking gaps in traffic at roundabouts is now a lot safer!

Although its much better to drive, the ‘new’ MAF I fitted seems to not have a wide enough reading range. Apparently its common for the non OE brands to be like this. So I have ordered a OEM Siemens unit. I should see an even greater fuel saving once the fun factor driving settles with this new MAF.

Highly recommended, makes 'proper' ground up modified maps, understands engine and drivetrain limitations, and can make a map that feels stock for a larger engine, rather than a peaky smoke laden map that just ruins components and gives the 'illusions' of improved drive ability.

Will use again for future upgrades!

User

Sorted my poorly performing badly mapped td5 discovery and now performs amazingly! Dan is very knowledgeable and can’t do enough for you. He strives to keep in touch to make sure things are in check and is a generally nice chap. 5 star company! You won’t be disappointed.

User

Incredible difference.

Arrived about 1:30 and left by 3. As soon as I arrived Dan jumped in the truck, plugged in his nanocom and diagnosed any faults with the truck, a couple minor but none very major that would affect what was soon to be done. We went for a test drive and soon as we got back, out came my ECU and I followed him eagerly into his workshop where he showed me what the new chip and socked one looked like.. on one he made earlier to save time on my visit (in Blue Peter fashion).

We came back to the truck, plugged it in and he cleaned out some oil that followed down into my ECU plugs from the injectors. Hopped back into the truck and what a difference, a completely new car by anyones standards.

Drive it soft and its a very smooth about-town car, put your foot down and you really feel the animal inside it with so much potential. Its the real deal, expect a saving on mpg if you drive sensible, but if you rag it about constantly expect to lose some because of the increase in horsepower.

Daniel has been helpful from the first message, professional advice and support - he knows these cars inside out. Will definitely recommend him to anyone in the future.

I usually hate having stickers on my car.. some people have a sticker for everything and even things they don't. But as soon as I got home, I grabbed the torch and carefully laid them on. I'm very proud to drive with these to show my support.

If you're thinking about getting a remap, don't go for second best. Go for Storm.

User

I went over to Dan today to have my discovery 2 remapped Iv never had this done before so I didn’t know if it was gonna make a difference I shopped around first and read up and Dan (storm tuning) comes very highly recommend so I decided to let dan work his magic with a stage 2 map and when we went out on the 2nd drive I was lost for words my disco had been transformed in an hour the power it has now pulls like a train and the discovery is now a pleasure to drive. I can’t thank you enough Dan keep up the good work I highly recommend storm tuning. See you in the future and thanks again

User

I treated my 2002 defender TD5 to a stage 2 remap from stormtuning, Daniel was patient and understanding to a totally clueless customer , and his after service, tweaking the map to suit my needs was no trouble too

Mike who installed my map was fantastic and very knowledgeable in everything landrover

The map itself is incredible. It makes the truck come alive and i am no longer afraid to venture into the outside lane on the motorway

User

I have to give Dan’s work 5 stars... which in no way seems enough!!! As is typical with the D2 Td5, I was driving a vehicle that could be so capable. I said COULD BE, and thanks to Dan now IS!!! My D2 was incredibly under-powered as standard. I’d have to wait for extraordinary large gaps at roundabouts to be able to pull away safely, and even had problems with steep hill ascents in the Lake District... at one place we stayed which was on a very steep hill, I even had to “get the little knob out” and change to low ratio to get up the driveway!!! By 3,000 revs it was almost flat out of go.

As our job often involves working off-road and in some quite difficult places, combined with often having to cover many miles, we needed to remedy the sluggishness and bring the truck up to it’s full potential. The list of mods is quite long but the first was the performance. As I did my research, one name kept coming up with awesome reviews - Storm Tuning.

Right from the first phone call, Dan’s expertise and professionalism shone through. He told me things I wasn’t aware of, and we came up with a plan of action. On getting up to Rotherham, I was back on the road home in a little over half an hour with a completely different and amazing feeling truck. Dan diagnosed two common faults that needed attention in no time at all - a new MAF sensor and turbo control valve. Dan gave me links for where to get them at great prices. I was impressed on my way home after the re-map, but after fitting the new sensor and valve a few days later, I was blown away... and so have countless surprised boy racers at traffic lights been!!! Lol (Joke Mr Insurance Man, honest!!!!).

The truck now has a responsiveness and ability to do what I want WHEN I want. Pulling out of junctions and roundabouts is as safe to do as when driving a quick car, it pulls like a train AND the fuel economy seems to be miles better (scuse the pun!!!).

So, in summary, Dan made the whole process a seamless pleasure with his infinite knowledge of the mechanical and technical sides of D2 ownership, an amazing re-map that has made the truck a sheer joy to drive, has unlocked it to its full potential, allowing us to now have a vehicle that will EASILY do everything we will require of it, with cheaper running costs. Safer, stronger, capable... worth every single penny for what is a great product, at a great price, from a top guy!!!

I have been in the motor trade for all my working life and I currently manage a Main Dealer Service Department. Positive customer feedback is a vital part of my business, and I believe any business. Positive feedback is a rare thing nowadays especially on social media, everyone is too quick to speak about bad experiences but you won’t find any negatives here!

I have owned my D2 for 8 years and for that time I have been running a map from a different tuner. Recently I had been toying with the idea of getting it remapped as it had started to feel flat and underpowered, especially when towing. Daniel took his time to answer any questions I had, he listened to what I wanted to achieve from a remap and we then decided to go for the Stage 2 map. On the day of the mapping Daniel explained every step and talked me through what he was doing as he went. Instantly Daniel identified a concern with my engine, which I have now rectified, but he still managed to successfully carry out the remap. Instantly the difference was amazing, the power delivery was smooth and came in a lot earlier, no flat spots like I had previously and all round just a nicer more modern drive. And I have to say it pulls like an absolute train when you want it to or need it to. Daniel also recommended some future modifications I may benefit from such as a hybrid turbo, MAP sensor and intercooler and I have replaced the intercooler in preparation for the future.

My D2 is quite modified and runs a 1.4 transfer box which had meant I had lost my cruise control through changing the ratios. Previous tuning companies had said that there is not a fix and it CAN’T be done by mapping. While I was with Daniel I challenged him to look into this. He went away and within a week he came back to me with a fix, I now have my cruise control back. This may seem like a trivial thing but it’s a huge thing to me and technically I think Daniel is a wizard.

I would certainly recommend anyone with a TD5 to give Storm Tuning the opportunity to make their smile bigger

Thank you Daniel. Your service has been brilliant and I will be back for further tuning at a later date.

Regards,

Dale Hunt

Had a stage 2 remap carried out on my discovery 2 today, Daniel has done a fantastic job and totally transformed it's performance and driveability, I'm really pleased with the end result. He has a wealth of knowledge and offers some great advice where needed. Anyone thinking about getting a remap done, I'd certainly recommend giving Storm Tuning a call.

User

Daniel is extremely helpful and the ECU turned up today very quickly after going through what was required, havent had a chance to fit it to the vehicle yet but it smells really nice

User

Daniel is a knowledgeable and very helpful chap. He has transformed my sluggish TD5 110 station wagon into a far more capable vehicle. I can drive it now without running out of power at all the wrong times. Money very well spent...

User

Dan worked magic on our 110! Storm Tuning Stage 2 remap means we can overtake traffic easily and tow the caravan with ease..(and still overtake traffic) very happy with the result and will be back for the next remap! Highly recommend! Get yourself booked in. Now.

User

Amazing. It's like having a brand new vehicle. Due to distance and owning a nanocom we were able to do the whole mapping process remotely. A few hiccups on my end due to nanocom misbehaving and the vehicle having been fitted with the wrong ecu at some point in its life but these were all sorted in the end. Professional to deal with all along the process. Still need to replace my MAF and do a few tweaks and another data log and it should be 100% completed but even now it's amazing. Highly recommended to anyone looking to improve their vehicle.

User

Amazing work my defender 90 is completely different and so much fun and smoother to drive. Couldn't fault the costomer service at all!
