Old Stoics Rotimi Segun (Chandos 15) and Taju Atta (Temple 18) played against one another in last Friday’s Premiership Rugby 7s final at Franklin’s Gardens. Rotimi scored for the Saracens side helping them to 33-12 victory over reigning Champions Wasps. 21 year old Rotimi is hitting the headlines with his impressive contribution and is set to be a major player in next season’s Premiership. Our congratulations to Rotimi and to fellow Old Stoic, Taju, who made an exciting appearance in the Wasps’ line up for this exhilarating match.

Henry McQuitty (Upper Sixth Walpole) is supporting a campaign to build a memorial gym in memory of a close friend of his, who died unexpectedly at Christmas aged just 17. Henry would appreciate any support you may be able to offer. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/h obbschallenge

We stayed at the Gothic Temple for a long weekend (rented through the Landmark Trust), an extraordinary building set in the grounds of Stowe House. It’s an incredible experience and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Every room is circular and has huge windows, so light floods into the building from every direction. There are long views down in every direction and you can see the other monuments and temples peeping out from the trees in the distance. Very peaceful, very relaxing, very comfortable.

You can tour the main rooms of Stowe House (when out of term time) and wander the vast grounds (run by the National Trust). Golf buggies are available from the National Trust for those who want to see all the grounds but can’t cope with the walking (£10 for a few hours - order in advance). It takes about 2 to 3 hours to walk around all the temples and monuments (at a slow place and stopping to look!).

The Festival of the Unexceptional was on when we were here (classic car show) which was superb.

This magnificent grade 1 listed palace is slightly different from my own school, which was made from asbestos, tin foil and sellotape, but then it was never home to a Duke. The police visited quite a lot though :-)

We spent 4 nights at The Gothic Temple within the grounds of Stowe School. This was our 6th stay there! On two previous visits we have done the tour around the school itself and we interested to see the changes in the restorations that had taken place. This time we took the roof top tour. We had a fantastic view across the 5 counties and of the cricket matches that were going on below. We come back each year ( twice for The Spring Equinox, once in June, September, October) this year in July and have already booked for next March for The Equinox again. We come each time for the total relaxation of it all, and find the grounds themselves in their awe inspiring beauty help us to do that ( even when we walk for miles in a day!) It took us till our 4th visit to actually leave the grounds, as we just didn't want to leave! The pupils we have met and seen have always lovely and polite ( a rare thing these days). Even a group of young lads from the visiting cricket team, when coming across us taking photos of The Gothic Temple at dusk, and asking us about it, were lovely and polite. Even when we explained that they couldn't go inside as we were staying there. Fine young boys. So yes, we will be visiting your lovely school next year for some more lovely relaxation in stunning surroundings. Thank you Stowe!

Took the car , lada 1600es to the show , enjoyed the event plus wonderful setting . Wasn't quite sure what the judges meant ,when they looked over my car , a bit bling , but had many people liking and enjoying the car , so that's what it's all about . Great day , marvellous event ,

Stayed as guests of Stowe House at the music school.

Wonderful venue, wonderful setting and wonderful people.

User

Privileged to have attended this wonderful school, and despite poor reports herein, the vast majority of Stoics & Old Stoics alike are the cream of the crop, albeit lucky.

User

Lovely school...great staff...so helpful all bar one slightly officious individual struggling with basic politeness over parking. That's not taken the edge of how brilliant the rest of the staff have been though helping set up for #Bunburyfestival cricket 2017. Thank you...it makes so much difference!

User

Had our reception here 8 years ago today in The Marble Saloon and accompanying rooms. An incredible historic venue with unbeatable backdrops. Certainly a day to remember. Wish we could do it all again.

User

Had never been here before and was totally amazed. It's so beautiful. We bought a picnic and had such a lovely evening in the grounds in the sunshine before going through for the concert. And Roger Hodgson was absolutely brilliant! We were fortunate not to have too much hassle from others in the crowd but it did remind me of a football match where the fans stay at the bar drinking until kick off and then all rush in at the last minute. But we were quite near the front and had a good view and Roger was one of the best acts I have seen in a long time.

User

Great to be able to wander around the house and see how it’s used as a school

User

From theatre, concerts, to just taking a walk around this beautiful school It's an amazing place to visit.

User

Fantastic venue to see Supertramp. Memorable event. The worst part were the students gatecrashing as free entrants while us paying 'real fans' of the artists had to endure massing crowds totally spoiling any view of the stage whatsoever. The security guys really were as much use as a chocolate teapot and very often stood in the way as well!!!

User

Fantastic place to just have a relaxing walk and enjoy the wonderful grounds and scenery. The Roxy Theatre is a wonderful venue also!

User

Beautiful venue for Fiori musicali’s concert yesterday -hearing music for the sort of place it was created for all those years ago perfect 😊

User

Attended the Festival of the Unexceptional (classic vehicle show) yesterday, 22/07/17, with my classic car. My wife and I are at various classic vehicle shows for every weekend throughout the summer season and this one rates as one of the best for me. Set on the great lawn in the shadow of the magnificent main house the location was perfect. Unfortunately, heavy rain spoiled it for the afternoon. Looking forward to doing it all again next year.

User

An absolute stunning place, the setting for a classic car event was a master stroke having it here at stowe house, it realy gave the sense of a very british event. The grounds buildings are beautiful and look to be kept to the very highest of standards. I will visit again.

User

Amazing school. And my son is very happy here.

User

Went to see a concert by Roger Hodgson in a stunning venue in beautiful grounds (a National Trust property). While the musicianship was exemplary, the concert was completely ruined by the boorish drunken behaviour of what clearly appeared to be Old Stoics who had been partaking of the liquid refreshment available. They came in late, continued talking loudly, not just through the music but during the stories that Roger shared with the audience, most of whom deserved better from a small minority of boozed up, spoiled millionaires. Roger, his band, and his fans did not deserve this! A complete lack of class from people who should have known (and behaved) better.

User

Completely agree. These inconsiderate, rude, uncontrollable "thugs", tanked up from the bar and like others have said would have been better at a football match than a civilised music experience, which should have been amazing given the location! Security didn't stop them and they continued to scream and shout with or without Roger playing. I think even Roger Hodgson was getting annoyed! For those that went to see Roger for the music and experience it was ruined by the inconsiderate audience, dancing (if you could call it that) and stepping on people's feet, pushing, shoving and talking through those songs they didn't know! Have seen Roger before and love his music, but wouldn't go back to this school. Would have expected more from the attendance of professionals and well heeled.
