About Straightup Productions

Looking for top live comedy in London that's cheap, local and. . . well. . . funny? StraightUp aims to deliver Value For Funny: top comedians for bottom dollar.

Straightup Productions Description

StraightUp Productions is a theatre company and writing circle comprised of Will Dalrymple, Mark Bittlestone and Will Penswick. Will Dalrymple and Mark Bittlestone met at Cambridge, where Mark was a member of the Footlights, while Mark and Will met at school where they devised and performed in several productions together.

Founded in August 2017, StraightUp's first two productions were 'Pity Laughs: A Tale of Two Gays' and 'The Oppression Olympics', both of which played at the Edinburgh Fringe. In 'Pity Laughs', Mark performed standup about being a gay orphan, while Will narrated his fictional gay life 'Man2Man'. The show received 5 stars from Broadway Baby, which described it as 'the first true gem of the 2017 fringe'.

'The Oppression Olympics' was a play that took a scathing look at sentimentality and self-pity, examining four primary characters who each think their lives are worse than each others'. It was one of The Fringe Review's 'recommended shows', who described it as 'a brilliant, tightly crafted piece of writing, full of belly-laughs but with an undercurrent that chills'.

'StraightUp' has several shows coming up. Will Dalrymple's adaptation of 'Tristram Shandy' is playing at the OSO Centre theatre in Barnes from 7-8 November, while all three are performing in a mixed-bill standup show in Cambridge on 20 November called 'Life Goes On'. 'The Oppression Olympics' has a three-night run at the So& So Theatre in Streatham from 7-9 December. Finally, all three are doing the stand up circuit in London.

Probably goes without saying at this point, but our shows will be cancelled until further notice and we will issue refunds to those with tickets to Friday's StraightUp Comedy #34. Keep safe x

Didn't we say it was gonna be a good lineup?!? Joining Rosie Jones is incredible two-hander Shelf. Funny Women Finalists 2019, Shelf comprise Rachel WD and Ruby Clyde. Already lifelong friends, they started performing as Shelf in 2015, honing a style that is “a winning hybrid of sketch show and standup” (Edfringe Review). Their work has appeared on BBC3 and LADBible. For tickets head to StraightUp Comedy #34 or grab 'em here http://bit.ly/str8upcomedy.

After two of our best ever gigs in Jan and Feb to kick off 2020, we're confident we've got another cracking lineup for you in a fortnight at StraightUp Comedy #34. Kicking things off is Rosie Jones, a comedian who describes herself as a triple threat: "I’m disabled, I’m gay, and I’m a prick." She's also very funny, and TV credits include 8 out of 10 Cats, Would I lie to You? and The Last Leg. Tickets are here http://bit.ly/str8upcomedy and are already selling preeeetty nicely.

As ever a bunch of cracking photos from the multi-talented Milo Jerome Robinson, who also took to the stage and killed it with a wonderful #chive based set. We're back at the Landor Space in a fortnight with StraightUp Comedy #34. "Tickets are selling already" is an old adage but in this case it happens to be true. **ACT ANNOUNCEMENT** If you thought "gee, the lineup for StraightUp Comedy #33 is looking hot", then it's about to get A HECK OF A LOT HOTTER.
Remember a time before modern, so-called ‘comedy’ by edgy, so-called ‘comedians’? Gay man Will Dalrymple ("Never again; is gay. ☆" - Rhiannon Shaw) and cum-gurgler Rhiannon Shaw ("Gurgles cum!☆☆☆☆☆" - Will Dalrymple) remember. Uncle and Auntie Comedy bring you anti and anti-anti comedy: a so-called Hullabalooo!

You may have seen him behind the camera at our nights before and thought "gosh, he's talented with that machine". Well, he's also talented with another machine, if you consider a microphone to be a machine. It's more of a conduit, I suppose. Either way, this is in 10 days and the marvellous Milo Jerome Robinson, a "Local Clapham lad who tells tales of woe and strife on the high street", is joining us at StraightUp Comedy #33. We did Soho Theatre Young Company with Dimple Pau and she's not only the most lovely, wonderful person but also unbelievably, unbearably funny. Wait for #NoHairWashWednesday. StraightUp Comedy #33 on Feb 21 is selling really well and we're only a fortnight out, so we STRONGLY RECOMMEND booking now ==> http://bit.ly/str8upcomedy

Karen Hobbs was diagnosed with cervical cancer at just 24 and debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2016 with "Karen Hobbs: Tumour Has It", using comedy and storytelling to challenge the stigma of having a gynaecological disease, raise awareness for cervical cancer, celebrate life and loudly tell cancer that it was barking up the wrong chuff. She's pretty special and we think you're going to love her.
Tickets selling vvvv well for this so get in early => http://bit.ly/str8upcomedy

Nearly a quarter of tickets for StraightUp Comedy #33 have now gone and we are pretty thrilled to announce that joining Garrett Millerick - Comedian is Holly Burn. Described as “Hilarious" (The Scotsman, The Independent) and a "Geordie power house" (Chortle), we know you're gonna love Holly. Tickets => http://bit.ly/str8upcomedy

We have already shifted quite a lot of tickets for next month's StraightUp Comedy #33. We've also had a very clear MESSAGE from the Landor Space that 80 is the absolute max, so there will be no more standing at the back, no more "saaarrry totes forgot to buy a ticket", you gotta buy or you gotta stay at home.
We're pretty stoked to be bringing Garrett Millerick - Comedian to StraightUp Comedy. He's a very, very funny man who is currently touring his 2019 show "Smile" and work...-in-progressing his next show. Go check out loads of the amazing things he's done here https://www.garrettmillerick.com/
