We are running an Instagram ‘best photo’ contest running from 29/07/15 until 12/08/15. All you need to do is upload a photo, it could be the local wildlife, flowers, trees, landscapes or even a photo of you enjoying yourself around The String of Horses to Instagram putting #cumbriasnaps in the caption. The only condition is the photo must be in Cumbria! We will select the winner at the end of the week, the winner will have a choice of prizes, either a 1 Night Stay ...with a bottle of wine waiting in your room or a Meal for 4 in the restaurant worth up to £75. Also the winners photo will be feature in large on our website.
You may also enter via Facebook if you don’t have an Instagram, just upload to The String of Horses Facebook page using the same hashtag. But we would recommend Instagram as you can edit your photos and make them look even better!

What a fantastic place to stay, full of character and the friendliest staff. Mitch lent us a book about the Hadrian wall during our stay. I loved the inn, the food and the area. Can't wait to have the opportunity to go back and stay longer.

We stopped at String Of Horses Inn en-route to Scotland,we found this Inn to be very welcoming the room were very nice and the breakfast was very good , we would stop here without doubt.

We stayed overnight and we're very pleased with our accommodation. The room was large and well decorated and the bathroom was also large and spotlessly clean. We ate in the bar that evening the food was superb. The bar had open fires and log burners and the ambience was very nice. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was one of the best we have ever had, the quality was excellent. We would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

This 17th century inn has a very pleasant English charm and great hospitality. My choice of evening beef pie and vegetables is highly recommended and breakfast was excellent too. Quaint drive along English country lanes to get there was a delight. 100 percent all round. Thanks.

Stayed here for 4 nights would certainly come again. It is a very quaint beautful decor our room was very clean bed comfortable. All staff very friendly. Would certainly recommend the food excellent. It's out in the country side about 7 miles outside Carlisle so you would need a car. Plenty of very interesting places to visit not far away.

My kind of place. Beautifully decorated bedroom and large bathroom. Traditional bar & restaurant with some great menu choices. Kraken dark rum yum - couldn't resist. And friendly staff. You'll need a car but you'll be glad you came.

Lovely 2 night stay. Beautiful room, big comfy bed, Jacuzzi tub was perfect after we had been out walking. Food was great and large portions.

Just spent the weekend at String of Horses Inn and I can't reccomend it enough. Our room was beautiful, the staff all really friendly and the food is to die for. Will definitely be returning in the future

Having a great stay in the pub, staff are very friendly, warmly greeting you and looking after you, meals are first class and very tasty, overall a splendid stay.

Had a lovely one night stay on October 11th. Can't praise the place highly enough. Lovely welcome as soon as we arrived from the bar staff.

Food is amazing, proper homemade big portions.

Rooms were very nice too. Cannot fault the place at all.

Special thanks to Mitch the Barman who made my partner and myself right at home with his friendly chat, as all the staff were.

The room was very clean, my only comment would be the blind lets the light into the room down the side, but would recommend to anyone & I would definitely stop again.

Fabulous food, huge portions, all fresh home made. Top marks to chef. Lovely relaxed feel to the place, but also decorated well. Next time will treat myself to deluxe room with jacuzzi hopefully!

Cracking weekend in the Lakes at String of Horses. Quaint old style coaching inn full of character. Friendly staff, good quality meals and next to Carlisle and the Lakes.

Can't get any better for a quiet break , a great base for exploring Cumbria and beyond , fantastic food and fab people who run the place and care about their customers.

Stayed here 2 nights, good service. Friendly but quiet staff. Would come back deffo. Love the bedroom decor..only fault my lovelies is your cleaning staff arent cleaning the en suite bathroom! Hair was around outside base still there yesterday when got back and headboard & lamps could do with a hoover.

All in all we have had a fabulous stay here. Would recommend you definitely.

Just had a great 2night stay @ this lovely inn. A great quiet location within easy reach of Carlisle. Only disappointment we had was that the bar & restaurant was closed on a Monday. After a full day out we would have liked to have been able to relax with a nice meal in the restaurant and a couple of drinks in the bar after. Would recommend the place to anyone and would give it a definite 4star.👍
