Sue Townsend Theatre Description

The iconic city centre theatre has recently been renamed the Sue Townsend Theatre to honour the Leicester author’s legacy to the arts and to Leicester. The theatre is where Sue began her writing career, working as a writer in residence, and where she wrote her first award winning play Womberang.

The theatre has a rich history in the Performing Arts and a stellar cast of leading British actors and actresses having performed at the theatre.

The theatre is regularly utilised as a performance venue by local and national arts, music, theatre and dance companies. Please see our What’s on Guide for information about forthcoming productions taking place at the theatre.

The Sue Townsend Theatre is also a teaching venue for Leicester College, and is home to our Performing Arts and Music and Sound Technology teams. Our learners have the opportunity to train in this incredible commercial theatre space, and we are honoured and delighted to celebrate its recent renaming.
