About Sullivans Of Hornsea

The Sullivan Family have been serving The mouths of East Yorkshire and its Visitors since 1980. We pride ourselves by using the freshest ingredients.

Sullivans Of Hornsea Description

The Sullivan family moved from Keighley, West Yorkshire, to Hornsea, East Yorkshire, in November of 1980 where they bought a little fish shop by the sea.
With all the family working hard seven days a week, they expanded and built a 2 takeaway shop with a 120 seat restaurant. In 1995 they purchased a second shop in Beverley and opened a takeaway which has recently gone through a full refurbishment.

Sullivan's only use the finest and freshest products, which are always cooked to the highest of standards.

With the successes of the fish and chip shops, the Sullivan family diversified and purchased the Rolston Army camp and developed it into luxury holiday lodges changing its name to Hornsea Lakes

And the story continues

Went on a little trip to Hornsea with my mum and niece and decided to go to Sullivans for some fish and chips.

Was not disappointed! Got a pattie and peas for me niece and both me and my mum ordered the sage and potato patties and chips. Both mine and my mums come with 2 decent sized patties (did not expect that!) and a generous portion of chips! Mum brought a pattie home as she could not finish them both! She could only manage one!

This has to be one of (if not) the best pattie I have tasted. If I dare to say, it is even better than Bob Carvers in Hull!

Went in tonight with my parents, partner and baby. We ordered 4 fish chips and peas, I was feeling extra hungry so got a battered sausage too. The ladies serving I cannot fault their service, nothing was too much trouble. Our food came out, my partners came first, when ours came out there was a extra plate of chips as the chips on my partners plate was not to standard so we got given extra. The fish was so lovely and the batter

There was a table behind us who’s grandchildren wanted to share a milkshake and it was put into two glasses for them which a lot of places wouldn’t do.

Thankyou so much to the two ladies who was serving tonight, you both are stars!!! 11/10 for service!

User

We had a lovely birthday celebration here. The ladies who set up the table and sorted the cake for us were just fantastic, they could not have been more helpful patient and kind. We were a very mixed group and nothing was too much trouble. The fish was perfect, fluffy flakes of haddock that melted in your mouth with a crispy batter, and I am a trawler skipper's daughter so I know good fish when I taste it and this was superb. Thank you lovely ladies and all the staff at Sullivans.

This was my sixth visit since the reopening from the flood damage. Three times with my husband, twice with my Mother and Sister and again with my Husband and his Sister and it just keeps getting better. Clean plates all round and great value for money. Monday special today was regular fish and chips plus a choice of mushy peas, beans, gravy or curry sauce, with bread & butter and a pot of tea £7.50 per person. Excellent service from Jay. The refurbishment is outstanding, so pleasant, well done to everyone involved!

Look forward to visiting again very soon!

User

The last time we were here the place was being refurbished after some flooding in the area, it’s certainly brought some fresh fish into the shop

User

Saturday and having an east coast drive. Stopped for jumbo fish and chips. Scrummy and good value.

My hubby and I religiously travel miles to Sullivan's to eat their beautifully fried fish and chips, in their newly refurbished restaurant. I also relax with a glass of wine. We have tried fish and chips at many other places, but nothing compares to theirs. The haddock is absolutely, amazingly delicious, crispy batter and fish that's so tasty and it melts in your mouth. We moved to Barton from Hull and still wouldn't dream of trying anywhere else but Sullivan's in Hornsea. The staff are so obliging and polite, their new manageress Jane is absolutely spot on, she's the business, one night we arrived after their closing time and knowing we'd travelled a long way, she opened up again. Jane is lovely and bends over backwards to please, she's so organized and has everything in hand. What more can you ask for, lovely polite pleasant staff giving first class service and delicious fish and chip dinner. Thanks Jane (hope that is your name), we'd travel the globe for your fish and chips and delightful service. First Class - Great Stuff x

Might have to get a kids size next time what a fish it was 🖒

I recently was introduced to Yorkshire Fishcakes, as named and made by Sullivan’s chippy in Hornsea. I have had them previously under another name.

I must admit, these were the best ever!

Very well cooked, a huge amount of fish inside two slices of potato. Just perfect. Ring up your order, then hey presto.....best fishcake in Hornsea!

User

Fish and chips with mushy peas great, wife had skate chips and mushy peas which was also great. Highly recommended.

User

I’ve always paid the extra for this place as you know what to expect, but after a recent visit, I found it far beyond it, time for somewhere new to try

User

Just had fish and chips from Hornsea , chips were spot on but the fish was awful , guys you need to cook it longer all the batter was not cooked very soggy and wet needless to say it went in the bin and to feed our cats... think we will give it a miss for a while

User

This used to be the best chippy for miles!

Got some 'food' earlyer today and it was the worst i have ever eaten. It went in the bin!

Bad really really bad!

You are obviously relying on the fact of its previous reputation and locality to the front.

Why would any self respecting chippy put food in plasic containers escapes me.

Sullivans was superb before they were flooded, since they re-opened they have been completely trash.

My partner and i have used Sullivans only twice since they re-opened, whereas before we could not wait to get lunch there, the food was amazing, a proper English seaside fish n chip shop, that being said, the food was terrible the first time after re-launch, portion sizes had changed and are no way near what they were, i would even venture to say they are outright stingy, chips were dry, raw in the middle, not hot, crispy and greasy (in the good way) like they use to be. A lady ahead of us in the queue had asked for 2xfish n chips, when they were served to her 1 box had alot more chips in than the other box, so she asked for it to be topped up, the answer she received was "sorry, im not allowed to do that!, bad customer service right there!, my partner complained when we got back home and Sullivans responded saying the usual crap, we will be happy to compensate you ect ect, saying it is because we have new staff in training, (thats right, blame them.) not an excuse in my opinion, the new staff should of been supervised if that was the case. anyway, that was a couple months ago.

We decided to give Sullivans another go today, we bought a chip butty and a portion of chips which came to an astronomical £5+ quid, my breadcake was dry and certainly not fresh to the point that it just fell to bits, chips were oversized, hardly cooked and raw in the middle again and dry, i got like 10 chips scattered on my breadcake, were my partner got a box of raw potato chips as thick as my thumbs. she took them back to Sullivans to complain, and was ignored when she told the server i'm sorry i cant eat them, she was not even offered a refund, just ignored!!. the guy at the back working on the fryers, think hes the owner, i could tell by the look in his eyes his passion had gone and it just appears they are there to rake in money now, (probably to cover the cost of refurbishment) and screw the customers and food. Old Sullivans was excellent 11/10 0n all counts. new Sullivans not even a 3/10.

You are not whiteheads so why copy them, if it aint broke, dont fix it.!

Sat inside and wont be rushing back. Was rushed to make an order,as soon as we sat down had a waiter come to take order ask him to come back which he did within a minute. Waited another 10-15mins for drink, which i had to as for. When we got food, the fish wasn't very nice and wet. Wasnt worth £20 and wont be back.

User

Been going here for years but I must say the chips were awful I won’t be going back .
