Sumners Ponds Fishery Description

FISHING

The fishing lakes are open to day tickets from 7am each morning until dusk or 9pm, which ever comes sooner. Campers and members may begin fishing at 6am during the summer months when the mornings are lighter. Day tickets can be obtained from the reception or the bailiff who will make several visits during the day. The fishery rules can be viewed on the large notice board located outside reception, on the web site and also on the back of all fishing permits.

There are currently four course fishing waters open at Sumners Ponds.

Sumners Lake, the larger specimen water, is stocked with Carp up to and around 36lb, Perch to 4lb, Chub to 6lb, Bream to 7lb, Roach to 2lb and Pike to 15lb. Half of this lake is generally reserved for campers but vacant swims can be fished if there isn't an arrival on that day. Night fishing for members and campers is also possible on this lake.

In the Farm Pond, the smaller but more mature of the lakes, we have Carp to to 24lb, Roach, Tench, Rudd, Chub, Perch and Crucians. Both The Farm Pond and The Sumners Lake are open everyday to day tickets as we do not book matches on these waters. Night fishing is possible on this lake when a premium camping pitch is booked.

Set on its own, away from the campsite lies the 3. 5 acre Match Lake which provides prolific fishing with Barbel, Chub, Carp, Crucians, Tench and Roach. Primarily designed for the match fisherman but provides great sport for the day ticket fisherman too.

The Ribbon Lake, as its name implies, is a meandering ribbon of water. It is well stocked with fish such as Barbel, Tench, Chub, Bream, Roach and Crucians. It is popular with match fisherman and is also ideal for beginners or parent and child teams as you can generally be guaranteed a successful catch on most visits.

Our newest addition is Betty's Lake which is currently under construction. This lake will be another specimen water similar to the Sumners Lake. We hope that Betty's Lake will be open Summer 2016.

Please note that we are very serious about the well being of our valuable fish stocks and you must be sure to have read the rules and have the correct equipment. Our staff are happy to advise as are most most experienced fishermen.
