About Sun Moon Yoga

Sun Moon Yoga is an independant Yoga school based in Sheffield, offering Yoga classes for beginners and improvers, and individual Yoga Therapy sessions.

Sun Moon Yoga Description

The practice of Asana brings our awareness to our physical body by observing ourselves in our present state without judgement. Then, by focusing on correct alignment in the postures, we learn to free up the joints and release tension in the muscles; equally building up strength to address any imbalances that may be causing us pain. The whole body becomes more flexible, strong and toned, and through practice, a natural weight is gained. The use of Pranayama helps to calm the nervous system and allow free movement of ‘prana’ or energy in the body. The mind also becomes more focused, and with the aid of relaxation and meditation, we can allow the mind to be present, leaving us feeling at peace.

Back in Sheffield now, and back to teaching. There are a few drop-in classes running over the summer and then full schedule begins again in September. I am also running this workshop below at Unity Yoga in Sheffield, so book your place soon if you are interested as there are limited spaces. Yoga for all!

All classes running up until the weekend of 23rd/24th June are drop-in. Classes can be booked online, or just turn up to the class. I will be away after that for 4 weeks (holiday....yesss!!!!). Here is a little sequence my daughter recorded for me. We do stuff like this in the class sometimes.

In class this week we will look at how some postures can improve our core stability, identifying the muscles that contribute to this, and also a little look at shoulder mobility and stability, with plenty of relaxation to finish off. Riveting stuff! Drop in spaces available.

The practice of Yoga can bring stability within our mental processes to allow the clarity, or brightness of our inner, innate wisdom to shine through. According to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the practice of Yoga can bring stillness to a fluctuating mind. Yoga enables us to begin to observe unhelpful, critical or ruminating thought patterns, which produce undesirable actions, and gives us the opportunity to take steps to then remove these obstacles to our clear perception....
In this workshop, we will be exploring the Yoga Sutras to help us understand the nature of our minds, and look at how we can use our Yoga practise to maintain or improve our mental well-being. We will blend this with recent findings in neuroscience that are confirming how practices such as asana, pranayama and meditation can ‘rewire’ the brain and help lead to a more stable, content and peaceful state of mind.
We will be using body movement and postures to bring our attention to the present moment, and begin to unwind the mental tension that gets locked into the body. The postures are straightforward and do not require extreme flexibility, so all levels of asana experience are welcome. We will also practice breathing techniques that balance the nervous system and simple meditations to calm the mind.
No experience of Yoga necessary.
This workshop is limited to 14 spaces.

Can't make this myself, unfortunately, but it looks like it will be a lovely event.

I'm attending this day yoga workshop on Saturday. Looks like it should be good, and there's still a few places left. Anyone want to join me? Can even give you a lift if you're not too far from me (Hunters Bar)

User

Some pre Pranayama workshop reading for those attending the workshop at Unity Yoga Studio on Sunday. There are still a couple of places left.

Would you like to try Yoga? Whether you are a complete beginner or perhaps have had a break from your practice and would like to restart, then this beginners Yoga course is for you. Over the 6 weeks we will explore then connection between the body, breath and the mind, and how we can maintain or improve the optimal functioning of these. This is a slow paced class that begins by turning the attention inwards to the body sensations, thereby developing an awareness of the body and of areas where we may hold tension. Through simple movement, gentle stretching and relaxation, we can begin to undo the 'knots' that may cause us discomfort and start to find more healthy patterns of movement and more comfort in the body.

A few warm up movements to encourage the free flow of the 5 main Prana Vayus, or, currents of life force in the body.

There are a few spare places available on this workshop next Sunday. The focus is on the breath. This may be especially beneficial for those who suffer from anxiety and stress, but also to anyone who is just curious about the wonders of a natural unrestricted breath and the benefits this has for the body and mind. You can book with the following link if you are interested. Thanks!

This may be helpful in understanding the nature of the 5 main currents of Prana in the body, the topic in Yoga classes this term.

Simplified Sun Salutation that we will build upon over the next few weeks. Why not come along and try? Still spaces in some classes.

Classes on Thursday 1st March at Hagglers Corner and Shirley House are both cancelled due to more heavy snow forecast. Classes will resume next week all being well. Enjoy the snow❄️🌨️⛷️

Those who practice yoga know that it is fantastic for relief of anxiety, and science is proving it too.

New 5 week term starting this week. We will be looking at the 'Pranamaya Kosha' or 'energy body', finding simple ways to allow the free flow of energy in the body. This week we will look at Apana Vayu or the downward current of energy that helps us to feel grounded as we let go or tension both physically and mentally.

User

Looking forward to teaching my first workshop at the lovely Unity Yoga studio in Sheffield.

This workshop will help us to find ways in which we can maintain the health and correct functioning of the spine whilst looking at techniques that can relieve existing pain and discomfort. We will explore simple postures that help us to feel how our spine moves, and explore ways in which we can maintain or increase stability and flexibility. We will look at the anatomy of the spine, and begin to understand the bio-mechanics of our movement in relation to the spine. and how we... can improve our functionality in movement. We will also explore the connection between the autonomic nervous system and stress, and the affect this has upon us and our backs, and will learn breathing and relaxation techniques that can bring us some relief from the everyday stresses. This workshop is suitable for those with chronic back pain, but if you want to attend, please let me know of any serious conditions relating to the spine.
This day course can also be of interest to Yoga teachers who may want to develop their understanding of the spine, whilst collecting CPD hours.

What a wonderful, sensual way of Yoga practice. Nice film with great wisdom from Angela Farmer.

I really enjoy that the classes include the more esoteric aspects of yoga such as correct breathing, meditation techniques (which can be more fully explored at home) and explanations of chakras and energy movement as well as the physical stretching and postures. Great teacher and nice people, highly recommended!

User

Excellent yoga class for back pain. Thanks Eric

User

Excellent teacher, been looking for a therapeutic yoga session in a small class for some time. I'm so happy to have found one, thank you Eric!

User

Everything you need and want from a class and teacher, very interesting class!!

User

Eric is special to me in many ways. He's a genuinely lovely person (honest, thoughtful, genuine, funny). He's supported my yoga journey. He is such a great teacher with second to none anatomy knowledge and knows his yoga thoroughly. His classes are taught with themes so you don't come away from classes thinking yoga is just about moving around on a mat. You learn about the history, the path of yoga and the breath techniques. A truly great teacher. One of my favourites in the country.

User

Eric is an excellent yoga teacher with extensive knowledge who always encourages individuals to be mindful of their own limitations. My flexibility, balance and body awareness have grown tremendously through attending yoga classes with Eric.

User

Eric is a rare and special yoga teacher. he’s calm and shares knowledge whilst going through the class. We all listen to him, how can you not? Great teaching method

User

Best hour and a half of the week. However I feel before I go I feel amazing and full of love and gratitude when I leave.
