Sunny Afternoon

About Sunny Afternoon

Winner of 4 Olivier Awards including 'Best New Musical', Sunny Afternoon tells the story of The Kinks' rise to stardom. UK Tour 2016 /2017

Sunny Afternoon Description

The Kinks exploded onto the 60s music scene with a raw, energetic new sound that rocked a nation. But how did that happen, where exactly did they come from and what happened next?

With Music and Lyrics by Ray Davies, a new Book by Joe Penhall and Direction by Edward Hall, Sunny Afternoon depicts the rise to stardom of The Kinks. Set against the back-drop of a Britain caught mid-swing between the conservative 50s and riotous 60s, this production explores the euphoric highs and agonising lows of one of Britain’s most iconic bands and the irresistible music that influenced generations.

This ‘exhilarating, hugely enjoyable new musical’ (Financial Times) features many of the bands hits, including: YOU REALLY GOT ME, WATERLOO SUNSET, DEDICATED FOLLOWER OF FASHION, ALL DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT, LOLA, SUNNY AFTERNOON and many more.

What a friday night at Nottingham Theatre Royal ☺Brilliant! We loved it.! Outstanding cast (James Hudson understudy for Ray. Brilliant voice) & of course great music through the story of ups & downs of the Kinks. Thanks guys ☺

User

Went to the show last night in Bord Gais Theatre was amazing great performances from the whole cast with the added bonus of them all playing live throughout the show definitely recommend it.

User

Went to the Theatre Royal Brighton today for the matinee performance, with our

dear friends John and Donna from Southwick

Excellent show with music from the Kinks which brought back some lovely memories of my younger days.

Ended the evening with a meal at the Côte Brasserie. When I was young apprentice in Brighton, working for the Brighton & Hove Herald. the Cote used to be the old Gas showrooms, so many changes in Brighton from 1960s.

User

Went to Sunderland empire to see sunny afternoon it was brilliant and hope they come back to the north east soon would definitely recommend and go back myself to see the show

User

We're following the tour... only place we haven't been able to get to is Belfast but we're booked for the 10th May and the last night on 13th May in Plymouth... will be very sad to see this show close but very grateful to have enjoyed so much of it.

A hugely talented cast both at the Harold Pinter theatre and touring. How these guys keep going is amazing. Each time we see the show it just gets better and better!

Thank you all for bringing such joy..! xx

User

We all thought this show was brilliant. A superb cast of talented musicians who were not only singers but played a series of instruments. The character of Dave was fantastic played by the actor. Well worth watching! Love the songs, the set, characters and the story. Awesome production!

User

Top show. Loved every minute of it!! A very talented cast. A must see for not only fans of the Kinks but any lover of 60s music. Saw this in LLandudno last night.

User

Superb performance at the Wolves Grand today!! James Hudson you were outstanding as Ray! Cannot imagine it being done better by anyone! Well casted brilliant talent! Only prob I have is how to get to see it again before the tour ends!! Best stage musical I've seen in a long time!!

User

Quality musicianship all round, from voice to drums they nailed it ! Only fair and proper The Kinks and Ray Davies have their well warn footprint left in pop music history

User

Me and my daughter saw this tonight in Dublin, wonderful show, amazing acting singing and dancing and some really great renditions of the Kinks music. Also very very moving in places. Cannot recommend it highly enough, go and see why Sir Ray Davies is now a Sir!

User

Just got back from watching Sunny Afternoon at the Theatre Royal Nottingham. What an absolutely amazing show, the cast were all excellent!! The whole thing was captivating from beginning to end, the performances were faultless, but my favourite was the Dave Davies character, so funny!!!

User

Just brilliant! Loved every minute of it and hopefully going back on Saturday with my daughter. The guys who play Dave Davies and Pete Quaife deserve special praise, the musicianship is fabulous (being a musician myself the first thing I'm bound too do is look for authenticity) and the energy is cracking! First class stage direction and imaginative arrangements. The a-capella version of Days is spine tingling. Thanks guys!

User

I just want to wish everyone concerned with this show my huge congratulations on such a wonderful, fabulous production. I saw it four times at the Harold Pinter in London, then once in Birmingham and twice at Wolverhampton's grand theatre. I can honestly say it's right up there as one of the best pieces of theatre I have ever seen on a stage. Every performance has been perfect, these guys never miss a beat! So impressed with all the talent on stage. It's such a "feelgood" show. So sad it's coming to an end. I could see it every week! Got to wait for a film now. I wish that a DVD of the stage show would be released though...I know one was recorded before the change over cast in London...Have a wonderful final week!

User

First saw this great show on its first week at the Hampstead theatre.I knew then it would go far saw it again at the Harold Pinter in the west end. Was so pleased that it toured all over so that the rest of the country got to appreciate the story of a great band The Kinks. Thank you for the days

User

Fantastic show. Saw it in Llandudno yesterday afternoon. Great music, great cast and amazing performances by all. Didnt want it to end. Really well done. Amazing.

User

Excellent show at the Bristol Hippodrome - took me back to how it must have been with the naievity of the bands making it big in the 1960's. Great acting and musical ability of the Cast and the dancers were fabulous too. Loved it, thanks.
