REAL STYLE FOR SUMMER 2014
I have been moving house this week and so the fashion scene hasn't been as high on my list of priorities as usual. However today back in my office I immediately glanced through magazines to see what is around for Summer 2014. I know what Wardrobe is successfully selling, but I like to know what other stores are doing. What you may ask is happening?. Quite frankly I am confused. If, I, who visit Milan Showrooms regularly can't work out a theme, heav...en help women who want guidance. What is happening to the fashion scene when a classically elegant fashion house suddenly starts showing a model wearing hairy hind legs of a donkey……..scary. So let me explain what I think is Summer 2014.
Colours are subdued brights…mustardy yellows, burnt oranges and lots of glamorous neutrals in modern variations.
Trousers are cropped but the length is determined by your leg length…some women will want cropped to the ankle and others will want more of a statement and will wear them a bit shorter. The taller you are the shorter you can go.
Dresses are curvy and can be worn with a short, knitted or tailored jacket for the office and alone for a more relaxed look. Statement collars are varied, very flattering and soft. Knitwear is important in many interesting yarns. Long lean cardigans look good with everything…trousers, dresses and skirts. And those special sweaters for our summer evenings - some with very tiny crystals that help you sparkle!!
Bags…amazing shoppers that can double up as work bags and cross body bags in top quality leathers with classy closures. And of course the Pochette a must for summer evenings and an accessory to the shopper.
Most important of all - all sizes are catered for as more top Italian Houses are made aware that every country is asking for a larger size range. Enjoy your summer

Spring/Summer 2014

THE STATEMENT COAT
Some time ago I wrote about how the coat has become something more than just a piece of necessary clothing to keep you warm. If like me you travel a lot, the coat becomes almost more important than what's underneath. Not taken to literally please, but what I mean is that you can put a simple dress or skirt and interesting sweater underneath an important coat and instantly become glamorous. An important coat or, as the Fashion Press calls it , the STATEMENT ...coat has volume and doesn’t skimp on fabric. The fabrics are usually modern tweeds, strong wools or lots of cashmere.
TIP: Considering winter will still be with us in the Northern Hemisphere for a few more months, it's probably a good time to try to find ones still in fashionable stores, at Sale prices.
However this trend will continue into Spring where the Spring Coat plays a big part in the look for 2014. Although in lighter fabrics the volume, glamour and spring colour palette is there for your individual interpretation. Next week I start over again with my buying for next winter. Having already bought some of our fabrics I know that the Statement Coat will still be a very important part of your Capsule Wardrobe.

Designer Sales ….Shop Without Guilt
Sale-Time - A time to invest in yourself.
Sale-time has arrived. A time to check out the clothes you know will make a difference, now at a price that can assuage the guilt! Let's face it, a coat, suit or dress that now costs £400-£500 less than before the Sale is worth going for, especially if it’s in a multi-season fabric. There have to be some advantages to our climate….
... I am constantly shocked by the number of women I see going for high-powered job interviews looking decidedly shabby. I do not believe you need lots of clothes (hence my Capsule Wardrobe approach)
Many high quality shops also have some things from previous seasons at really bargain prices, as there is only one left and they need space.
BUT…and this is a big 'but' be sure of where you are shopping so that you know you are buying (and will be wearing) good quality. It isn't a bargain if it’s faulty merchandise and there's plenty of that around !!
TIPS
Sale-Purchase a suit , skirt or trouser, which can be split up and you can economise on the top if need be. This way you can get several outfits from one purchase. I also believe a tailored dress is the best garment for interviews or important meetings as you don’t have to worry about tops etc. It is a truly feminine garment which, I know, makes a strong statement about your confidence !
