Sussex Army Cadet Force Description

The Army Cadet Force is open to all young people between the ages of 12 and 18 who are in school year 8 or above.

Sussex Army Cadet Force has 27 detachments covering the whole of East and West Sussex as well as Brighton and Hove. Divided into 4 Companies we also have a Corps of Drums, Signals and Kitkar teams.

Our Headquarters is at Highcroft House, in Brighton - an old building, built within the grounds of the TA Centre on Dyke Road, and its home to our Head Quarters staff team who usually meet at least once a week on a Monday night.

Wherever you live in East, West or Mid Sussex, there is a detachment near you.

COMMANDANTS CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
Sussex Army Cadets is nearing the end, of what has been an incredibly busy year, with a high level of training commitment from all ranks, which has resulted in some amazing achievements, from both Individuals / Detachment’s and Company’s. This weekend was certainly a busy one for us, we held a range day for the Intermediate Induction Course (IIC) to enable them to shoot the Cadet GP 5.56mm on a 25m range, some of which were first timers and some experienced,
The adult training team, training adults instructors and new potential instructors were treated to a Christmas dinner prepared by some of our chefs and WOW, didn’t they treat us!
The Signals Platoon were also holding their selection weekend, where they h...ad approximately 130 Cadet all looking for a place on the 2019 Cadet Signals Course.
This selection process involved training and testing on some of the basic signals syllabus and a fitness test involving the Obstacle Course.
There were some great results and Detachment commanders should be getting them shortly.
There were also two adults that have re-qualified to be Signals Instructors.
Good Luck and well done to all that attended.

Over the last weekend ‘D (Cassino) Company’ embarked on their last weekend away of this year. The weekend was filled with plenty of training and testing at each star level. BTS cadets under toke Skill at Arms Training as well as Drill and Navigation. 1* cadets honed their skills in Fieldcraft and Navigation. 2* cadets had a weekend of First Aid Training.... There was also a L/Cpl to Cpl cadre for the junior NCOs to put their knowledge to the test.
On the Saturday evening the cadets enjoyed a Christmas Dinner served to them by the Adult Instructors, before showing what they were made of in ‘D Company has talent’. This was a great evening enjoyed by all.
After more training on Sunday it was time for final parade with lots of awards to be handed out. Those who passed their 2* First Aid received their St Johns Ambulance badge. There were several promotions from CDT to LCpl as well as LCpl to Cpl. The company also gained two new cadet Sergeants.
Special mention however goes to Cadet Staff Sergeant Miller who was promoted to Seargent Major and appointed as Cadet Company Sergeant Major.
It was a great weekend for D Company!

I was a cadet myself from 1985-1990, then went back as an instructor. (No 15 Brighton) Loved every moment of it. Would recommend it to anyone.

I was 13 Shoreham by sea cadets and I loved it there and I joined the army as well and broke my ankle in there and I do miss the cadets and the army

I started at the age of 13 in 1983 as a member of Number 8 detachment Sussex Army Cadet Force and left there aged 17, I then joined as an instructor until I was 38, it gave me skills in both military subjects and general life. This has helped me throughout my life to become a person who respects others but at the same time manage others in my working life. I would like to thank Sussex Army Cadet Force, especially the older instructor's past and present who guided me as a cadet and later as a junior instructor, for some of the best years of my life.
