I've been here several times, great site, very clean facilities, especially the hot showers! Owners very friendly and helpful.... Great location for sightseeing the area, and the train station is just a few minutes walk! I will be coming back!

IT'S RIGHT NEXT TO A TRAIN LINE!!!

The pitch we were given was right in front of the rail bridge and a raised sewer pipe. Trains roared past every 15 minutes until 11.45 pm...one at 2.15am!!!! and then started again at 5.50 am.

There were lots of rules to follow and were posted around everywhere, but I have a few rules to also offer up.

RULE #1. Don't have a caravan park flanked by a railway line and a busy road

RULE # 2. Tell people when they call to book that you are next to a train line!! State it on the web site too!!! It is appropriate to have this information up front so people can be forewarned before they pay up their 20 pounds.

RULE #3. Don't have the amenities block up a flight of slippery, uneven flagstone steps...you have to carry up dishes to wash and also lug up loo cassette.

RULE #4. Don't pack vans in like sardines.

It was awful and surreal to stay in this park. We couldn't leave soon enough in the morning, there was no way we were going to stay for another night.

AS THE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY MADE THE BOOKING FOR THE SWALLOWHOLME CARAVAN PARK, I FEEL I MUST ANSWER THE OWNER'S RESPONSE TO THE FEEDBACK FROM HEATHER H. FIRST, THE OWNER HAS A LOT TO SAY ABOUT HEATHER BUT DOESN' T ADDRESS THE CORE ISSUE. THE OWNER KNOWS HER PARK BEST. THE OWNER KNEW THAT THERE WAS A TRAIN LINE METRES FROM THE PITCH SHE RENTED TO US AND SAID NOTHING. IT IS NO ANSWER FOR HER TO SAY THAT I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE PITCH BEFORE I TOOK IT. THE TRAIN LINE IS HIDDEN BY TREES AND UNLESS THERE WAS A TRAIN ACTUALLY GOING BY WHEN I LOOKED AT IT (AND THERE WAS NOT) I WAS NOt GOING TO KNOW IT WAS THERE. BUT BOY WE DID THAT NIGHT! IT IS ABOUT FULL DISCLOSURE. OTHER PARK OPERATORS MAKE FULL DISCLOSURE. AS AN EXAMPLE , AN OPERTOR WE DEALT WITH JUST A FEW DAYS EARLIER WARNED US BEFORE WE BOOKED THAT THE PITCH SHE HAD FOR US WAS 200 Metres from the FACILITIES. SHE DID THE RIGHT THING AND THE OWNER OF SWALLOWHOLME SHOULD ALSO. BE POSITIVE ABOUT FEEDBACK AND USE IT TO IMPROVE YOUR OPERATION. COUNTER ATTACKING DOES NOTHING FOR YOU OR YOUR CUSTOMERS.

Well maintained site. There is a train track nearby but on the plus side it is only a short walk to the bus stop and train station . (We slept there on a Saturday night and I did not hear any trains through the night) There is a playground in Bamford in the field next door that you can take the children too.

The campsite is well maintained and landscaped. The majority of pitches are for seasonal caravans but there are hard standing and electric hook up for tent and van alike.
I found the owners to be very friendly and helpful (especially when the car broke down!)

Unlike other reviewers I didn't find the rules to be over the top, in fact they are pretty standard for any campsite.

The only reason I gave 4/5 stars is due to the train line which runs along the edge of the camp boundary. Trains don't run through the night but do run until nearly midnight and start again around 6am. This meant earplugs were essential if staying in the tent. I also found the campsite to be quite brightly lit which didn't bother me but others may require an eye mask.

Overall I would recommend the site but be sure to take some earplugs!

A great place for a quiet camping weekend with a staff team or friends. located within the peaks so plenty of activity options available nearby.

We stayed here for 2 nights during our stay in the Peak District.

At first sight the site looks like it has everything you could wish for, it is well kept and the facilities are decent. However I would think twice about booking this site when you look closer into it. After being issued with a comprehensive rule booklet on arrival it soon became apparent that fellow campers with children were not allowed to do anything even remotely fun or active anywhere on site including riding bikes, or playing ball games. The makes the site certainly not suitable for families or active couples.

At first glimpse the site looks to be well located for local amenities but its location has huge drawbacks especially when it comes to sleeping on a night! The nearby main road emits lots of traffic noise and worst of all the site has a train line running basically though the site via an overhead bridge. Other reviews state the train line as not been a detraction from the quality of the site but personally I have to disagree. The trains run regularly all day and there were several that ran through the night during our stay and as you can imagine at 3am a train running through the site sounds like thunder during the quiet of the night!

I would not recommend this site. Lots of others are available in the locality with better facilities, away from busy roads and train line and more room to set up on and with a friendlier atmosphere! It did the job for our 2 night stay but we will not be returning.

Very nice medium/small site with very good facilities; immaculate, spacious shower/toilet block. The 20p per use hairdryer ran for ages on one coin. Be aware though that there are steps up to showers/toilet block and chemical toilet facility (which may affect you if you have mobility issues). Wifi was perfect. Water stands plentiful and well distributed around the site. While others clearly have not been affected by the close proximity to the railway line, we were and would recommend earplugs for the light sleepers. That said, it really is a lovely sheltered spot and a credit to the 'new' owners, who are always available, working hard and ready to help with anything. A fly fisherman on site near us had caught several large trout that week in the river running by. For food and drink we would HIGHLY recommend the ANGLERS REST in Bamford (turn left out of the site and it's about a mile, on your right). It's a community-owned and run cafe/pub/post office and artisan shop - great value for money. We had delicious and hearty veggie and non-veggie brunches and proper barista coffee, and would've loved afternoon tea too, as the cakes on offer looked delicious! (They're intending to reinstate their open fires soon for cooler days, which will make it just perfect!). Oh, and the site ducks ARE friendly and always hungry! (not apple, but love Warburtons seeded bread :-)

Lovely little campsite, great setting. Best thing was the very friendly, welcoming and helpful site owners - for whom nothing was too much trouble. Loved the regular visiting ducks waddling across the site. Great area lots to explore, stunning scenery. The railway line does pass along the edge of the site which may bother some, but trains weren't that frequent and I didn't notice any at night. On the other hand if you like trains and or wanted to catch a train at the station across the road - this could be a plus point. Some might think that the pitches were close to each other but this didn't bother me and the campsite although nearly full had a quiet, intimate feel to it. I'd recommend this campsite to friends and would visit again if in this area.
