Our doors might still be closed for winter but there’s plenty going on behind the scenes. The winter months are when everything gets spruced up and rejuvenated for the season ahead. All the cabins and cottages-on-wheels get repainted inside and out. We’re busy fitting new soft furnishings and making sure we’re fully stocked with all the glamping kit we provide to ensure your stay with us is as comfortable as possible. After all – who wants to go on a glamping break if you’...ve got to pack everything but the kitchen sink?! Not us that’s for sure! It’s really important to us that when you get here, all you need to do is light the campfire and relax. We're all about going off grid so you get to unplug in order to recharge!
Woodcutter’s is the first to open its doors for the 2019 season on Friday 15th February and we’ve still got some space over half term – so if you’re looking for a little escape – what are you waiting for? Take a look at our website for more details. http://www.swallowtailhill.com/woodcutter s-cottage.php

Whoops - here are the missing pics that mysteriously slipped off the end of our earlier post! Just a few views to give you a flavour of the project's progress this week. Ok - perhaps not the most interesting photos we admit 😉 but it's been an exciting few days for us seeing our plans start to come to life....

We have some SUPER exciting news for all of you. 2019 is going to be a big year for Swallowtail Hill. Our farm is very special to us and we know it is too to those of you who visit us time and time again. It's a conservation site so when we first launched our business nine years ago we made sure our four glamping spaces were the perfect fit for us - off-grid, unique to our landscape, very private, quiet and peaceful. Fast forward those nine years - we wanted to add to our ...wonderful collection of glamping spaces with something that guests could visit year-round. We knew we'd need to create something really special if it was going to make the grade! So we've spent over a year planning the arrival of not one but two new spaces to stay. The first of our new arrivals will be ready to open its doors in March, and the second will arrive a little later in the year. There are also some upgrades and refurbs happening on the rest of our little hideaways. We'll keep you posted! Meantime here's some pics of the glamorous sort of work we've been up to over the past couple of weeks. http://ow.ly/BByr30nkYJJ

So you're back into the swing of things, Christmas seems like ages ago and the New Year's resolutions are still holding up (just!). The whole of 2019 stretches ahead. What will you do with yours? January is the month of fresh starts, setting goals and good intentions. But we firmly believe that this includes thinking about all of the things you want to do this year, the places you'd like to go, the things you'd like to see and the experiences you'd like to have. Is glamping on your list? Some amazing time off-grid with the important people in your life? Get planning! Our doors open again next month and we can't wait to welcome you. http://ow.ly/9iwF30nfjzZ

'Scuse the shameless boasting - but did you hear we won an award?! On Wednesday night we scooped Bronze in the Glamping Business of the Year category at the Beautiful South Awards for Excellence. The awards are run by Tourism South East in conjunction with Services for Tourism Ltd and were held at the famous Grand Hotel in Brighton. Thank you for all the Swallowtail Hill love from our wonderful guests and a BIG shout out to the team who do a fabulous job of making our site the special place it is. Going for Gold next year guys.....

Did you know this is #NationalTreeWeek? A great initiative by The Tree Council to encourage us to plant more trees, and to show them the respect they deserve. We're HUGE tree fans here at Swallowtail Hill as many of our guests will have discovered! Here's my favourite tree on the farm, I'm sure some of you will recognise it. It stands at the end of the pig paddock just at the start of our woods. It's an Oak - around 300 years old and is a veteran tree, one of several we have... around the farm. That means it's a tree with habitat features such as wounds or decay - which make it very valuable to all sorts of wildlife and fungi. It's also a tree that is important to the history of the farm and surrounding area - I love the fact that there are locals and neighbours with fond memories of childhood that feature this tree. But to us it will always be 'The Wedding Tree' - because Christopher and I got married underneath its branches, and since then it has borne witness to many wonderful days as we've shared its special space with couples who've chosen us for their own summer weddings and special celebrations. It looks very different at this time of year - but beautiful nonetheless.

Just a few more weeks of our 2018 #glamping season left now - but we still have some availability in Woodcutter's Cottage if you fancy a couple of cosy nights in a cabin! Last chance for some restorative #offgrid time before the party season begins....? https://swallowtailhill.com/woodcutters-c ottage.php

We're super excited to tell you that Swallowtail Hill has been selected as a finalist in the Beautiful South Awards in the Glamping Business of the Year category. 😊 We couldn't have got this far without all of your support and love for what we do here - so thank you! There's a big awards night to look forward to on the 5th December - so we've a while to wait yet, but fingers crossed - wish us luck and watch this space!

Half Term is just a few weeks away - how about an autumn #glamping break? We've just a few nights left available. If you've only ever glamped in the summertime then it's a completely different experience during the cooler months - but just as much fun. Plenty of chance to practice the campfire skills, lots of reasons to get cosy, play board games and drink hot chocolate and a really lovely time of year to explore the countryside on long walks. www.swallowtailhill.com

We've at last found time to look back through all of our competition entries from the fantastic kids who stayed here over the summer holidays. We had some really great drawings, stories and poems about Swallowtail Hill - we even a little video rendition of a song adapted especially for us - 'the wheels on the tractor go round and round'! It was SUPER DIFFICULT to choose a favourite - but we've decided that our knitted 'Dinky The Sheep' is going to find a new home with Maggie for her wonderful words about Swallowtail Hill. Thank you Maggie - Dinky will be on her way to you very soon....!

We hosted another lovely hen-do at the weekend. This group of wonderful women gathered to celebrate with bride-to-be Lindsay. They enjoyed some campfire feasts and took part in a bushcraft session learning how to whittle a spoon from a birch log. Once upon a time a wooden spoon was a traditional gift for a bride so it was a fitting activity for the day. We've never seen such a determined bunch! Look at the finished products - really impressive handiwork! Thanks for making the session such fun!

Today is Mungo's 2nd birthday. Those of you who've met him know he's the biggest, bounciest and most bonkers Boxer ever (and that's saying something!), but he's our daft boy and we love him and we know plenty of you do too. Here he is about to enjoy his cake.

Meet Harrison the Harris Hawk - a youngster at 17 weeks and in-training. How magnificent is he?! Our lovely neighbours Heather and Simon brought him up for some hillside flying practice and we were thrilled to watch him close up. #outdooradventures #glampingeastsussex www.swallowtailhill.com

Mini-break anyone? We've a rather fabulous 25% off September stays: two nights in a cabin start from just £146 and two nights in a cottage-on-wheels start from £168. The farm is beautiful at this time of year as autumn approaches - come and relax and recharge before the nights start drawing in. http://ow.ly/5NOw30lM5th

Could these three be any more delicious?! Another instalment of #GlampingTV - where our young guests tell us about their favourite Swallowtail Hill holiday highlights #GlampingEastSussex #KidsOffGrid #FamilyGlamping www.swallowtailhill.com

Looking like it's going to be warm and sunny here in the SE next week - so why not keep the summer feeling going on a 2 night #glamping break in our lovely #MeadowKeepersCottage (from £224) #digitaldetox #shortbreak #eastsussex #rye http://ow.ly/OWiP30lAjsx

Our young #glampers have been drawing pictures and writing poems and stories about their holidays here this summer for our competition. They're all SO GOOD! We love them - so we're going to showcase some of the entries here. Take a look at this wonderful poem from Darcy (9) - our favourite parts are; "You still have to brush your teeth but you don't have to brush your hair" - YES! that's the rule on a #glamping holiday - hair can go a bit wild just like the kids can! And the last verse sums up perfectly what we're all about "We love it here it's an amazing place, as special as can be, so come to Swallowtail Hill and enjoy time with your family'.
