Talawa Theatre Company and Royal Court Theatre proudly present Nicôle Lecky’s Superhoe, directed by Jade Lewis.
Plaistow. Sasha Clayton’s 24 and living with her mum, step-dad, and irritating little sister.
She’s gone from being the most popular girl at school, to spending most of her time on her own in her bedroom scrolling through social media.
... She may not have a job or a flat, and, admittedly her boyfriend’s not answering her calls; but she got talent and a dream – when she releases her first EP everything’s going to change.
Superhoe was showcased as part of Talawa Firsts 2018 and is Nicôle Lecky’s Royal Court writing and performing debut. Superhoe is directed by Jade Lewis who previously assisted debbie tucker green on 2017’s a profoundly affectionate, passionate devotion to someone (-noun).
Superhoe is a Talawa Theatre Company and the Royal Court Theatre co-production.

Food for thought:
" ... it makes me wonder about the way the inequalities of theatre in gender and race are perpetuated. Not just by what is programmed but where a show is produced, in what space and ... for how long.
... it’s worth exploring the way more inclusive work is programmed"... Lyn Gardner

One from the archives, ten years ago: Yvonne Brewster on Desert Island Discs.
Born into a wealthy family in Jamaica, Yvonne rebelled against her parents' plans for her - marriage and children - to become a theatrical pioneer. She was the first black drama student in Britain - but when she enrolled, her drama school's principal told her that, as a black actress, she would never get work here. She went on to become the first black woman to direct at the National Theatre and a founder of Talawa Theatre Company.
