About Tanyard Studio
Arts and crafts courses, including felting, batik, jewellery, drawing, photography and animation - all in a charming country cottage garden studio.
Tanyard Studio Description
Nestled in a charming cottage garden is our beautiful art studio. We'll be using it to work on our own projects - but also hope to share with others some of the art and craft skills we have accumulated over the years (and of course the joy that making something with your hands brings). As model makers, animators and creative directors for studios such as Aardman we had to turn our hand to many different disciplines - from wielding hammers and saws to making clothes, from designing characters to operating cameras. We'll generally be running small classes - for perhaps 4 people - for half and full day sessions. Half days will include refreshments and full days a lunchtime meal. We're already planning, drawing, photography, felt making, batik and jewellery classes. Regular 'family doodle breakfasts' and costumed /themed life drawing sessions are also on the cards. Let us know if there is anything else you would be interested in. We hope to see you soon!

Last week Cathy made some dry-felt characters from a friend’s new book. There is no armature - they are simply made from fleece that has been prodded with a barbed needle. If you’d like a go yourself, please get in touch to arrange a session :)
Wet felting is a magical process - but it can also be jolly hard work - especially if you're making a large bag or a pair of slippers. A half day introduction, creating a small bag or glasses case is an ideal way to learn the basics and see if you'd like to tackle something larger.
Christmas has arrived in the studio - with the usual piles of coloured felt replaced with armfuls of lovely smelling pine branches and holly berries (and mince pies and mulled wine!). Get in touch if you'd like to come and make a wreath too.
Spend a cosy afternoon by our lovely studio fire, creating your very own bespoke Christmas wreath. We will be working on a willow ring cut from the tree in our garden. It will then be covered in moss and decorated using a combination of locally sourced greenery, fruit and berries, seed and flower heads, ribbons and... maybe even some lights. You will create a wreath which will be the envy of the neighbourhood! £30 - Includes all materials, mulled wine, hot chocolate and home-baked mince pies! Please contact us to reserve a space. If this date doesn't suit, please get in touch and we'll try to arrange another.
A very pleasant (and energetic!) day teaching Michelle and Carol to make felt bags - a birthday treat.
Something a bit different in the studio last week... Cathy was commissioned to make a set of cardboard instruments for a local performance. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the full-size double bass!
Probably the silliest costumes yet. Fun to draw though!
Crikey it’s two years since we did the very first costumed life drawing session! Let us know if you’re coming this weekend so that we can get an idea of numbers.
Still places available for this Sunday...
Join us for some spooky costumed life drawing. All ages and abilities welcome. I can give a little tuition if you'd like it but it's really just a chance to get in some practise in a very laid-back and friendly environment. Bring your favourite sketchbook and drawing materials if you have them - otherwise there are plenty provided. £5 - includes half-time refreshments. Please let us know if you'd like to come so we can get an idea of numbers - and dress up if you like!
Cathy is using her old model making skills and restoring a doll’s house today - with some very studious onlookers. (...or they could be listening to the afternoon play)
Autumn may be upon us but in the studio the flowers were in full bloom again. Thanks to everyone who came - not the easiest costumes to draw! - but lots of lovely sketches produced as always.
Still places for life drawing today at 4-6pm....just turn up if you fancy it....we have cake!!😄😄

Now the summer holidays are over it's time to get back in the studio for some arts and crafts! Had a delightful day this weekend with some enthusiastic new wet-fellers (and a lazy cat).
Starting to run out of themes and getting desperate now. Still, the Baklava was nice. Still undecided about the Bazooka music...
Still places available for lifedrawing this afternoon 4-6....just cooking up some tasty treats for the 'tea break'!!
