Lovely couple Martyn and Ann travelled across the border from Cornwall to North Devon enjoy a day of clay throwing and making at Tarka Pottery yesterday.
They were celebrating their 9th wedding anniversary, which if you don’t know is Pottery! They made a stack of bowls and coiled pots but chose just four to keep.

A tiny bit of today! Morning and afternoon Christmas workshops making gorgeous (and looking good enough to eat) Yule logs, Christmas tree decorations and clay hanging wreaths. Lovely to have so many creative children and adults taking part. We also had our Saturday clay club making some interesting masks as well as some people celebrating their anniversary on the potters wheel. Just a typical Saturday really!

‘Baby it’s cold outside’ in fact according to Roxie dog, cold everywhere except wrapped up in my share of the duvet. What can I say?

Stack of gravy jugs thrown, turned and hand painted by @helenbatchelor65 Helen loves to throw her wares as thinly as possible using white earthenware clay. After turning her pots she lovingly paints each one using mayco stroke and coat underglazes. Helen loves painting patterns, it’s a great way to relax and unwind. I’m not sure how long she’s been coming to classes at @tarkapottery must be at least 4 years! I look forward to seeing more of her work over the next four! ... Been a cocktail kind of weekend. With @elizabethalicewilliams @katherinelydiawilliams at Kate’s pilates cocktail and tapas ladies night at The green room in Bideford. Today we had cocktails and lunch Kentisbury Grange while Beth was working. Back to pottery tomorrow and every day next week!

Had a lovely day out, first stop Caffyns Farm Lynton where there was a fabulous craft fair where these two had a stand! We bought a few more Christmas presents from some very friendly and creative stall holders! Amazing location and delicious mulled cider 😄

Love this gorgeous illuminated branch at a restaurant we visited in Turkey. It’s inspired me to get creative with swirly coils of clay. Progress update to follow 😄

Slip!! Slippity slip!! Lots of creativity this week with pottery classes using decorative slips on tiles and pots. Some interesting techniques using old store cards, hair combs, strips of newspaper, pages from notebooks and of course stampers and actually purchased sgraffito tools!! Lovely to see such a range of ideas and shapes, made from simple clay with help from brushes and a couple of hot air guns. We might have to have a rule about slip splattering and flicking being an outside activity though ... 🤣

My experience of Sessions with Jax at Tarka Pottery are nothing less than grand fun ; Terrific Tutorials from Jax and Hints and Tips when a Project in clay is about to begin :) Nothing less that Excellence Personified :) and just so much FUN :) :) :) Huge Thank You's to Jax for her huge range of Skills :) Knowledge :) Understanding of Clay :) and 6* Interpersonal Skills :) and making so much FUN so very rewarding :)

We had an amazing time and reply enjoyed ourselves. I was really excited when I got home as my bowl arrived by post. Very pleased with it and the colour is spot on a lovely teal. I have the bug now. What to do more. Thank you Jax for a great experience x

We had a fantastic morning creating in a really lovely atmosphere. The three children loved making castles - I have to say I've never seen my 4 year old son so captivated by an activity...for a full 2 hours! And the grown ups had a go at our own creations too. Jax and her team were really attentive and patient helping us out with our ideas. We will definitely be back!

We came for one of the children’s events, and my little girl made a birdhouse. Jax was so helpful, always on hand to give advice and help where needed. Lovely location and a great experience. Highly recommended.

Thankyou Jax for being such a wonderful welcoming teacher! I've been twice now, once doing some throwing and the latter doing some pottery painting with both adults and children! We had so much fun!! It's so lovely to have a couple hours away from everything and to just concentrate on what you're doing! We can't wait to come back! 😀

Really great afternoon spent at the potters wheel making various shaped bowls, vases and even a plate. Jax was really patient and an excellent teacher and the stuff we made came out really well. Would thoroughly recommend going if in the area but make sure you book in advance.

Myself and 7 of my female family members had a super time at Tarka Pottery for my Hen Party in May!! We did the Potters Wheel Experience which was great fun, guided by the lovely Jax and Beth � The array of equipment and colour glazes was fab, so we could all make very unique pots! Can't wait to see them fired and finished! Thank you for a fun filled morning. Would highly recommend!

I learnt so much in a short space of time, Jax was a great tutor. I had a brilliant time and got to take home a lovely pot at the end of it! Will definately be returning one day and will recommend to friends and family �

I had the pleasure of spending a weekend at Tarka Pottery making all sorts of wonderful things.

Jax organised a very special weekend for my daughters and I, staying in the cottage and having lots of time to get in touch with our creative side!!!!

Highly recommended. If you are in the vicinity of Great Torrington, the Tarka pottery is a good place to spend a couple of hours and let your creative side escape. I have never thown a pot in my life, but was taught how to do so and how to decorate it too. I was very pleased with the end result. It was such a nice afternoon, that I went back a couple of days later to create something else....

Had a lovely morning at Tarka Pottery! Lovely location, beautiful place. Very friendly, which helped as we had no previous experience! All 4 of us made bowls on the wheel and we're very proud of our efforts! Would highly recommend a visit!! Jax was super helpful and lovely! Good times ��

Beth and Jax were absolutely fantastic! We had such a lovely afternoon celebrating our anniversary. We felt hugely welcome and everything was fully explained and help was on hand throughout! Throughly recommend to everyone of all ages.

Absolutely highly recommend. Our five year old little girl had an amazing time making her pottery on the wheel then decorating and painting it. Staff are 100% dedicated with their patience and teaching children (adults too). We can not wait to see the finished item our little girl has made all by herself. First time at doing pottery and loved it. Thank you to every one at Tarka Pottery for a great afternoon of fun and learning. Little Mia gives five stars and 10/10.

Absolutely fabulous morning on Saturday for my daughters Hen Do. Everything was superbly organised and Jax was so helpful and patient. It really is a superb place for all ages. Would highly recommend.
