Q: How can you tell whether someone uses cloth nappies? . . . .... A: They’ll tell you 🙈 👶🏻 Seriously, I’m guilty of this! I will mention it even if it’s completely irrelevant to the conversation. Yes I guess I’m pretty smug about it, but to be honest it’s not because I feel holier than thou for it but because: (A) it is so satisfying (B) look at the pretty pattern ! (C) it’s better for smells (D) look at the pretty pattern! 👶🏻 Here squidge is sporting a @motherease Rikki wrap covering a lollipop bamboo nappy. The Rikki is only just still able to fit him so will be moving up a size...if they ever get back in stock on @thenappyladyuk ! #clothbum #clothnappies #reuseablenappies #clothnappy #modernclothnappies #crunchymum #ecofriendly

This article railing against Meghan Markle popularising home births and potentially increasing birth risks is riddled with misunderstanding of the home birth procedure in the UK and the benefits of home birth to the mother, baby and the NHS, and an insult to the midwifery profession.
Planned home births on the NHS will have two midwives attending, not one. They are highly trained medical professionals experienced in natural, vaginal births. What they can offer you medically a...t home is identical to what you’d get at a birthing centre.
Circumstances that require going to the labour ward are the same at home as at a birthing centre, and are not often high risk emergencies. In any case, an ambulance will be called if the midwife deems it necessary.
For a low risk pregnancy, EVEN first time mums, the benefits are huge. More relaxed, familiar environment, attended to by the same midwives throughout leads to increased likelihood of a smoother labour and birth.
Studies show no increased risk to mum or baby in home births and it is of course much cheaper on the NHS. In contrast, hospital births can be traumatic, with long lasting effects on mum and baby. That’s not to say all hospital births are traumatic but giving birth at hospital can lead to interventions which can make the mum feel out of control of the situation, leading to a less satisfactory birth.
And of course from a nutrition point of view, you get to eat your own, home cooked meals rather than hospital food which is lacklustre at best and certainly not produced with healing and recovery from a hugely taxing experience in mind!
It’s not an absolute that home births vs birth centre vs hospital is better than each other, they’re very different, and may be right for different people. The important thing is for women to feel they’ve made the right choice for themselves and to be well supported throughout.
You don’t have to be a princess to have a successful and wonderful home birth.

Me. Every. Single. Day. 🕰 And people ask me why I need two hours notice to leave the house and am STILL late for things.

This is amazing to know what happens after the umbilical cord is cut. I was quite emotional when my son’s was cut - our physical connection was over!

It’s 2.40am and as I contemplate losing another night’s sleep to my squidge, I learn that all he needs from me is 1375 days of pure attention. That’s really not that much and here I am wasting half an hour of it scrolling through my phone. He’s already had 60 days of life; including my pregnancy, 320 of broken attention 😱

Just the start of a fantastic Mother’s Day meal at the fabulous @peckhambazaar. This a wonderful little neighbourhood restaurant - they accommodated us despite being half an hour late, they were more than happy for us to have our baby boy with us and the food is just incredible. 🥘 #mothersday #mothersdaymeal #firsttimemum #newmum #newbaby #instafood #feedfeed #eatingout
