Tavistock Wharf

About Tavistock Wharf

Live rock, folk, classical and blues music, cinema, theatre, live satellite broadcast event screenings and more!

Tavistock Wharf Description

The Wharf has been described in the press as one of the finest live music venues in the South West. The auditorium has a capacity of 400 standing or 200 seated - or a combination of both.

The stone building has excellent acoustics, and our 16kW sound and 48-channel lighting systems are second to none. With experienced sound and lighting technicians and 24 track recording facilities, we can offer a live performance facility that is hard to beat.

The auditorium also doubles as a 200-seat cinema, equipped with state of the art equipment, including full Dolby surround sound with a dynamic "earthquake" sub bass system for those blockbusters. It is surprising to many that good sound can be very exciting and compliment your enjoyment of a film - without being too loud!

In addition to the regular live music and cinema events, the Wharf hosts a number of theatre productions and special shows throughout the year. Previous events include BBC Gardeners Question Time, BBC Children in Need, Germaine Greer, Pam Ayres, Independent Ballet Wales, John Suchet, Tavistock Steam Fair and many more - the list is endless!

New to the venue is live event satellite broadcast screening, featuring our high quality digital projection and state of the art sound - watch remote ballet, concert and classical events as they happen, from many famous venues.

saw Bad Manners here last night and previously saw Nirvana UK. I really like the venue! :D

User

Well, the band Focus were out of this world last night at The Tavistock Wharf. What incredible musianship, from masters of their craft. All of their songs were so well delivered, especially one, which unfortunately can't remember the name, as it was one I've not heard before. It just took me into a trance and did not want it to stop. Very memorable. Ben and Ryan got their albums signed by all members. Zach unfortunately didn't get to meet the band as he had a bad case of flu last night, although he did go and enjoyed it.

User

We cannot wait to return to The Tavistock Wharf on December 2nd 2016 with our Total Who Show as it is the best Rock n Roll Gig in Devon and Cornwall. See you there !!!

User

Thanks to winning some gig tickets, we had our first time attending The Wharf last night. A really enjoyable show in a lovely little venue. The list of forthcoming events looks pretty appealing so hopefully we'll return again soon.

Just a small observation with the BBQ though in that it didn't seem to cater for vegetarians. Must admit I didn't ask as I had already eaten but there was nothing on the menu.

User

Lovely intimate venue. I've been many times and never been disappointed. Good parking facilities and friendly staff.

Tiered seating for those who need or prefer it. Lovely outdoor 'beer garden' area with tables and chairs.

A good value for money night out.

User

I watched the bon jovi experience again last night for the third time. I love this venue and find the staff very friendly everytime and will keep coming back. Thank you and keep up the good work.

User

I have read some reviews and feel some people will moan about anything. It is mostly staffed by volunteers, you peasants, who do a very good job!! Tavistock is a small market town, not the O2 arena!! If you want top of the range service, go there!! I have been 5 times and seen some fantastic bands. Last night was no exception and I took the opportunity to purchase tickets for July 1st while I was there. Keep up the good work. Many people value what you do. Thank you.

User

I had thought about going for ages, but for one reason or another hadn't. So glad we finally made it there. A short journey from Plymouth, free parking right outside, a bar and live music, what's not to like? We saw The Bon Jovi Experience. At first it seemed a bit odd that they referred to themselves as if they were Bon Jovi, but hey it's an act and if they don't want to take credit in their own names fine. There were some issues with lights and levels in the first half - couldn't hear the guitar and drums were overpowering, lights seemed to lag behind a little - but by the second half this was more or less resolved. Overall a really enjoyable night out. Will definitely go again sometime there is another act that tickles our fancy.

User

Great local venue.

My husband and I go often to watch the live music/tribute bands and always have a good time. It's a small venue but has the main arena/stage, a good bar, little lounge and outside area - everything you could possibly need for a small town.

Prices are reasonable (although if you book online then you do get charged a booking fee for every ticket, instead of each transaction, which I disagree with).

User

Awesome venue ! The staff were awesome and helpful even if I did walk away from the bar without paying ! Not deliberate !!! Great place and will definitely go back. Thanks for a great night :)

User

2nd visit last night, lovely venue with free parking. The staff without the shadow of a doubt are the best I've ever come across, really friendly and happy. Would have no problem attending again!

User

Went to see Peppa Pig with my little girl. She loved it and had a great time. It wasn't too loud and nor were there too many adverts.

Only 4 stars because I'd like more popcorn choices.

User

Loved watching snake charmer Saturday night. Been to see a few tribute bands her now. Always takes me back to my youth. Love this place and have never had any negative experience. Staff always helpful and friendly ... always excellent bands and not expensive. Keep on doing what you do so well 😘

User

Great little venue, sound pretty good and intimate enough for a good artist/audience experience. Bar isn't too over priced either. If there's one thing to mention, it does get fairly hot when it's busy. Saw Joanne Shaw Taylor there last night, great show.

User

Great concert venue and friendly staff.

Shame about the BBQ on Friday night though - so looking forward to it, had nothing to eat before .........

But we'll be back for more great bands

User

Been a few times. Nice size, not too big, can get a few in but still feels intimate, glad of seats for those of us no longer spring chickens. Toilets a bit cramped and can be queues when the venue is only moderately busy. Burgers (outside) are cooked individually to order so bit of a wait but delicious. Anyway- good place.

User

Always books the best tribute bands and a few surprising originals too. Excellent venue, which I've managed to play a couple of times myself. Nice bar, and reasonably priced too. My only small gripe is that BBQ provides the slowest fast food in the SW.

User

While what goes on stage here or what is shown on screen is fine - the actual visitor experience is terrible . The venue is run by a largely volunteer group of helpers for a company / people who are running it for profit BUT no one seems to know what they are doing !! The bar is rarely open after a show due to lack of helpers and you have to buy ice creams from the box office in the interval where people rarely know what they are doing . On one occasion one young lady couldn’t add up £1.75 plus £1.75 . The house lights are so dim in the Theatre you barely can see . The seats are uncomfortable . The list goes on .. at least the town has this but the operation needs better planning and running . At the matinee where I am writing this as an audience member one person has turned up to help so no bar and one lady struggling to sell ice creams .

User

We went to see Mad Dog Mcrea supported by the Eskies here, both fantastic acts and we thoroughly enjoyed their music. What let the evening down was the Wharf itself. Duff beer and lager on arrival - it seemed the only decent drink came from a bottle, why also did they have to change the Tribute twice in less than half an hour?

The barman had an attitude problem and what was even worse was that the bar itself only had one card machine... hello this is the 21st century. Furthermore, the toilets were truly overwhelmed to the point where the queued ladies were using the Disabled toilet and some girl was jumping across the stage taking photos all through the acts which was distracting the say the least.

Considering The Wharf is the most expensive place to see Mad Dog all year the facility should be up to a better standard.
