Taylor'S Bar

Honestly this bar was short-lived and I think it's been closed now.. which is a shame. It re-opened as Taylor's bar for about a month or so.. I went there for some cocktails and it's without a doubt the best place in Colchester for cocktails!! £8 for 2 cocktails!! It had everything! BEST COCKTAILS I'VE EVER TRIED! no joke.

The decor was really nice, very spacious and decent music. I think it closed because no one was going there or didn't know it was there. But seriously the couple of weekends we went there.. Best fresh cocktails in the whole town! Shame it's gone.

Was nice when we use to go a few years ago but now it feels like the quality has gone and the food is just not what it used to be. No one really enjoyed their food and they had no swordfish but yet still charged the same price for the replacement

As much as we always go to this place for valentines - we have never had a set menu forced upon us. Booked 3 weeks in advance - not told it was set menu - website also said nothing of a set menu! Get there and told we could only order from the 35 a head valentines menu. We reluctantly went for the meat one and I have to say it was very very nice. However, 70 quid is still steep for 3 sharing courses, especially as I wouldn't have bothered booking if I knew it was going to be a very limited, very expensive set menu!

Thought I had done well booking this place for Valentine's day, my partner is vegan and it's difficult to find places we can have dinner with a decent choice.
We had already looked at the menu before arriving and pretty much knew what we wanted. Unfortunately we turned up and found out we couldn't have anything from the normal menu, because it was Valentine's day the only thing we could have was a vegan sharing platter, although a nice idea it's not what we was there for, the waiter did offer to mix up the vegan platter with the meat platter to satisfy me, but we really wasn't interested and to top it off it was £35 a head!
So £70 for food we didn't want!
I'm mostly upset because I booked 3 weeks in advance and no one told me this was happening until we turned up, in a deliberate attempt to use the day to rip people off!
Thankfully a quick call to 'The Cells' around the corner saved our night and we walked out!

Been several times in the past when the previous owners ran this restaurant, and it was awful......
I came today reluctantly for a friends birthday and I must say it's been nothing but epic, food/service was 10 out of 10, I'm really pleased and glad I came.... we had the new meat feast party menu and my god it was so good, we had plentiful food, in fact far too much, will most defiantly be back, thanks to the front of house and the chefs great job 👌

Fantastic food great choice well prepared very nice cocktails good atmosphere staff are friendly helpful and attentive.
