The Courtauld Institute of Art's third TEDxCourtauldInstitute conference, Utopia - Breaking the Rules will take place on Sunday 13 March, 11: 00am – 6: 15pm. 500 years ago, Thomas More wrote a radical book that has captured imaginations throughout history: Utopia. In it, he presents an ideal society and places importance on the process of dreaming. Utopias may be unobtainable, and may come dangerously close to some people's dystopia, but More's book continues to inspire communities and prompt bright ideas. Inspired by More's vision, the theme of Breaking the Rules, asks speakers and attendees to reflect on what it means to dare to do something differently, and dream of change, be it for better or for worse. Life-changing innovations, actions and ideas will ask: if we break the rules of our present moment, what could the future hold?A broad range of stories will be told in a variety of formats. Among the speakers are: spoken-word poet Jack Flash; Anne Phillips, a professor and author tackling questions of equality and humanity; Marie Naffah, an award-winning musician who works with visually impaired musicians; beatboxer Schlomo; artist Peter Liversidge; Jane Powell, CEOof CALM, a campaign to raise awareness of male suicide. As the preeminent centre for the study of the history of art, The Courtauld Institute of Art and TEDxCourtauldInstitute will host Peter Liversidge as an Artist-in-Residence. A new display of Peter's work will be shown at TEDxCourtauldInstitute. As the synthesis of two intellectual and creative powerhouses—TED and The Courtauld—TEDxCourtauldInstitute provides a learning environment for the Somerset House community based on the sharing of ideas and stories.
