Huge thanks to our contractors who have been working non-stop today in Ironbridge Gorge. Here are Balfour Beatty crews cleaning up by Museum of the Gorge + pumping out people’s homes, and Idverde UK crews cleaning up at Dale End + Foundary Mews 👏👍

Our Veolia UK refuse/recycling crews managed to collect bins from most areas in Ironbridge Gorge today (they sent us these 2 pics). They will return to collect missed collections this Saturday (22 Feb), so please present your containers for 7am🙂

#StormDennis flooding update# 20 Feb 7am
Flood barriers remain in place & we await the impact of further rain over next few days on the #Ironbridge Gorge.
A little good news – our Highways teams have been out overnight & following are now open... 👉 Dale End +Dale End car park 👉 The Lloyds 👉 All properties and businesses on the Wharfage are now accessible on foot
River levels are also dropping in #Jackfield – teams will be out to remove a vehicle trapped in floods on Lloyds Head and when done, we expect that can reopen too.
We're also sending a roadsweeper to clear Buildwas Rd and after that we hope that can reopen too.
More updates as we get them

The River Severn peaked last night in ironbridge at 6.52m and residents and businesses are now feeling the lasting effects of Storm Dennis.
The local community have been amazing and all rallied round to help each other out.
Sarah from Grays of Shropshire couldn't let one of the local business owners go without a cake on her birthday and asked for our help to deliver a special birthday wish to Brooke who's new salon has been effected by the flooding and of course our team were... more than happy to oblige.
Please Join us in wishing Brooke a very Happy Birthday 🎂

***Refuse/recycling collection notice for households in the Ironbridge area*** Some refuse and food recycling containers in the Ironbridge area are scheduled for collection tomorrow (Thursday 20 February). Households due a collection are asked to present their containers as usual where possible and safe to do so. Our crews have been monitoring the situation, and will attempt collections if they can. If unable to collect first time, crews will return as soon as they are able and so residents are advised to leave their containers out.

Here's our first flooding update of the day:
River levels have peaked overnight.
With more rain forecast this week, we are being continually updated by the Environment Agency on the effect this will have on the rate of decline on the river level. As a result, we expect flood barriers to remain in place for a number of days.... A total of 40 businesses and residential properties were visited yesterday and occupants were advised to leave. The occupants of 13 properties chose to spend the night at home, the residents of 6 properties took up the offer of overnight accommodation in the nearby Valley Hotel, the remainder stayed with friends and family. Our officers will be contacting them all today to check on their welfare.
Today, Cleo’s in Café in Ironbridge will again act as rest centre for residents evacuated from their homes and for staff working in the area. Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service will be visiting properties in Ladywood and Jackfield offering further advice and assistance.
The following roads in the Ironbridge Gorge remain closed: •Dale Road •The Wharfage •The Lloyds •Lloyd’s Head
We are asking people to stay away from the closed area - the rest of the area is open for business as usual.
We will keep you updated throughout the day. For the latest information and advice flooding http://orlo.uk/LYXeD
If you have an query about a flooding issue our contact centre on 01952 384000
Although, it will be some time before we enter the recovery phase, we are advising residents to refer to the National Flood Forum http://orlo.uk/ToeJD for advice on what to do when the river levels have fallen.

We are still expecting river levels to peak this evening. 30 buildings on the Wharfage have been advised to evacuate. We will be offering support to residents who have been evacuated.

Those who have been evacuated are being looked after at Cleo’s Café and the community is rallying round. For the moment we are asking people to stay away from the area as river levels are still rising and roads are closed. Help may be needed with the aftermath, but not for the moment.
