FAQs

Q: How long does the Remapping take?
A: 1-2 Hours is needed to remap your car as we carry out a full car diagnostics before and after.

Q: Do I come to you, or are you mobile?
A: We are based in Havant however we can travel to you at a cost of £1 per mile (from PO9 1JH) to come to you.

Q: Can I wait with the Car?
A: You are more than welcome to wait with me while the remapping is taking place, most people enjoy watching the process of the remap, but please be aware it does take a few hours.

Q: Why don't the manufactures do this from standard?
A: Manufacturers have to allow for the fact that the vehicle could be going anywhere in the world. This is significant because they have to allow for constantly hot climates very cold climates, and very poor fuels. They also have to allow for customers abusing the car, for example completely missing services. When we re-map your vehicle, it’s mainly for performance, however, it is also fine tuning the engine to run perfectly, as each individual engine is different. When we're finished, your car will run as it always should have done.

Q: Can any car be remapped?
A: Most diesel vehicles can be, just get in touch and we will check for you.

Q: Why is re-mapping a better option than a plug in tuning box?
A: The option other than a proper re-map is a plug in tuning box. We often get asked which is best. The simple answer is a full re-map. A tuning box simply gives false sensor values throughout the complete rev-range. The ECU is constantly told (or fooled) that not enough fuel is entering the engine, so it over-fuels the engine to gain performance. Although performance gains are made, these are at the cost of high emissions, higher engine temperatures, and general poor running of the engine. Many sellers of tuning boxes state that they are completely invisible, as they can be removed. This is not the case, diagnostics tools will show errors which have been caused by the incorrect fuelling. Problems related to tuning boxes are poor running, black smoking from the exhaust, rough idle, and clogged injectors and even engine's cutting out.

Q: What if I’m not happy with the Remap?
A: Simple, we will put the car back to standard and give a full 100% Refund.

Q: If in the future I decided to sell the car and would like it back standard could you do this?
A: Yes we store all original ECU Maps in our Database so it’s a simple case of just remapping the original map back to the car.

This is why we do what we do.
This morning we had a T5.1 140 bhp van in for tuning. Part of the process is a full and comprehensive diagnostics check along with data logging. Now this data logging can be done on the road or if you're lucky like us you can use a dyno to do it however the important part is doing the data log and diagnostics.
The initial diagnostics showed up a fuel rail pressure fault. What we do is record all the faults for our records then clear all the fault...s. We then datalog the vehicle to see if the fault returns. On this vehicle the fault never returned after a couple of dyno runs so all good, it could just have been a glitch in the system of a fault somebody never bothered to clear.
We then start to do our thing and apply the awesome Pendle Performance software and start the process above all over again.
What then happened was the fuel pressure rail fault returned. We reset the fault and checked everything and carried out a couple more dyno runs. Every time the fault came back.
This needs some work doing before we could allow the driver to leave with a tuned vehicle so we return the vehicle back to stock and re-run it on the dyno. At stock it made perfect figures.
What this shows is that we are honest and won't allow a vehicle to leave unless it's working properly. Other so called tuning companies don't even data log vehicles, they just do a diagnostic scan, reset it, start the vehicle and say it's ok. They will take your money and 5 minutes after they have gone the fault comes back.
That's not us, we do it properly.
Done once, done right, first time, every time.

Smoke testing for boost leaks in progress this morning

This morning, amongst other things we are helping our friends at Guardian Alloy Wheel Protection as they test their products on our dyno. The vehicles are run a certain speeds for a period of time (as much as 45 minutes) with heat applied to the wheels so that spot measurements can be taken every X minutes. This also allows the wheels to become nice and warm just like real time driving so they can make sure they stay in place which they always have. 100% dangerous and MOT failures.

Always nice to share good stuff.

Sometimes you can't tune them. This has a massive overboost which on this model van is usually caused by a faulty turbo. The datalog shows the fault whereas some shite tuning individuals would still have a go at this.

Datalog revealing a problem, good old 2601.

Our little T4 project van. This little video was taken after I did an engine flush and oil clean followed by new filter and oil. This has now had a full service, cambelt and water pump too in the past 2000 miles. A pretty dry and clean T4 engine this is, not bad for 300K miles. I think we will tune it tomorrow. 😎

So our little battle bus T4 is now being sorted ready to sell on. It has a bit of rust on one sill, so we have removed the expanding foam from it (yep, really!!!!) and we will be fitting new parts. No messing about, job done properly first time. This T4 2.5 will be up for sale shortly so if you are after a project and have the time to put some TLC into a van (not engine or running gear as that will already have been done) then watch this space :-)

In this morning is a T5 1.9 102bhp van that has been tuned elsewhere with a reconditioned "hybrid" turbo.
Caveat: Please do check when you buy a "hybrid" turbo that it is a new turbo not one that is actually a reconditioned unit with some new bits on. Be aware that some unscrupulous companies will tell you the turbo is new as it will be new to you, but not new, as in new from the factory. If a "hybrid" turbo costs £300-600 then it 100% isn't a new turbo, it's a broken turbo w...ith some new bits added.
Anyway, this had been remapped elsewhere so the first thing we do is put it back to stock.
It made 121bhp and 284nm of torque to start with. At stock it made 99bhp and 221nm of torque.
Now bering in mind that this turbo isn't a new one so we have to be very careful how it's tuned. We liaise with Martin at Pendle very closely and with data-logs passing back and forth along with constant updates we are able to tune this a bit further and make it 100% better to drive whilst eliminating the flat spots it had.
This leaves us with 145bhp and 320nm of smooth Pendle Performance torque. Any more than this and you run the risk of turbo failure, something we won't do. Done once, done right, first time, every time.
