Today we wave goodbye to some of our river friends, the old Woolwich Ferries; a constant sight on the river for 55 years. We look forward to welcoming the 2 new boats in the new year!

ON THIS DAY: 3rd September 1878
Today we mark the 140th anniversary of the Princess Alice disaster, which happened on the Thames just east of Woolwich and Thamesmead. It still is the largest loss of life onboard a British vessel in peacetime.

On this day 1666, the great fire of London started in the bakery of Thomas Farriner in Pudding Lane. The city of London burned for 5 days straight before the fire died out.

These guys are the busiest lifeboat station in the country, and although we hope we never have to call them, it’s nice to know that they are there!
