Thatched House Farm

My mouth is watering. It is such a privilege to have our pork in the hands of such a talented and imaginative chef at The Duke's Head Somerleyton. I had never heard of a Tomahawk. I wouldn't be sharing.

As you would expect, we love pork but now and again we like to have a change. This week it is beef and the best tasting beef I've cooked for a long time. This lovely Topside joint comes from the Calf At Foot Dairy in Somerleyton. Amazingly tender, flavoursome and ethically raised. Loved it.

So that means none for us either. Sausages back in stock Tuesday and bacon will be the week after. Luckily we wont starve in the meantime as the Aylesbury ducks are laying. Duck eggs are bigger than hen's eggs, richer and with enormous orangey yolks. Limited numbers available at the farm gate while in season.

FREE RANGE AYLESBURY DUCK EGGS AVAILABLE. About this time last year we had duck babies and now they are giving back. The clever ones build a nest and lay their eggs there and we leave them to see if more little ones arrive. Some just get caught by surprise 'Oh I laid an egg' and lay them in the strangest places. These we collect and eat (see next post) and some we sell at the gate. Helps to pay for the enormous amount of duck food they get through.

You cannot beat a British Lop leg joint for crackling. My Sunday roast is shaping up nicely and a little bit of crackling just fell off, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

It has been a little while since we heard the pitter patter of tiny trotters but Harry and Arrabella have come up trumps with this litter. Happy day and thanks to Hayley Lake for her help again in sourcing a fabulous British Lop boar with a lovely temperament and lead in his pencil.

I'm pleased to say our delicious British Lop Pork is now on the menu at The Duke's Head in Somerleyton. It is a real privilege to have our meat in the very capable hands of such a talented chef! Head down and get some before it is all gone!

Yes I know it is only nearly Halloween but I am about to say the C word.... Now taking orders for Christmas Gammon. Delicious and only £7.50 a kilo. Get yours before they are all gone.

SAUSAGES ARE BACK IN STOCK! After a fabulous summer of barbeques and hot weather we had completely sold out. New stock now in. After our obligatory quality control this lunchtime I can assure you they are as tasty as always.

I am now officially mummy duck. Love these little Aylesburys.

Some woolly new additions at Thatched House Farm this week in the form of some Romney/Texel cross lambs🐑

A beautiful rainbow heralded the arrival of these little beauties at Thatched House Farm the other day. Our customers are always welcome to come and see our new arrivals.

We got a star and a 'fantastic' rating at Jimmy Farm Festival for our British Lop pork sausages, not bad for beginners! I think they may have made a mistake because we didn't enter any pork and fennel sausages so I am hoping we don't start getting orders for those 😂🐷

A homemade and hand painted house sign was last weekends DIY project at Thatched House Farm and may help our newer customers to find us more easily. Just got to hang it now...

After some great feedback on the sausages we have decided to enter them into the RBST best banger competition. Entry form went in today so fingers crossed!

NOW WE DO BACON!!! And I can confirm after much quality control tasting it is extremely yummy. £3.50 a pack of 6 rashers and be quick and get some before it is all gone and help to save me from my greedy self!
